The Dangers Of Felis Catus

Yet another girl destroyed. Broken in half, torn apart, and chewed to hell. I've been able to prevent them from deficating in the garden, but I have not found a way to keep them from killing my little girls. I will be trying the moth balls in a mason jar with holes punched through the lids. Aparently the smell keeps them away (we shall see).
What have you guys used to keep these pesky beasts from destroying your precious little girls? I will try anything, short of killing the cute bastards.

we use a mixture of used coffee grounds and orange peel on our fruit holding (about 2 acres)
it works great and is a fantastic fert.

Thanks ill be trying that as well. Last year i lost 5 to them. I was able to keep most of them out this year with cayenne powder, but it seems a couple of them dont mind it.

havnt tried cayenne powder. must remember that one.

another one i just remembered is get some old rags, soak them overnight in white vinegar and place it on a plate or something similar as close to the plant as you can. needs topping up once a week but it did the job for me a couple of years ago.

Thank you mikeyboy. I've lost plants due to many different pests, but the cat thing really got the blood boiling. The neighbor has 10, and feeds the strays as well.

damn, i can imagine how pissed you are. the farm next to my place has six. and of course its ireland so its all outdoor cats that go mental when ever they have the chance!
Having a dog has sorted alot of our problems tho, he scares off deer and pheasants aswell which were forever destroying our apple and plum trees.

Unfortunately, I will not be getting a dog. Though it would solve more than just the cat problem. I will let you guys know which methods are working since I will be hitting random spots in the area with the what you guys have recomended. I do not think the orange peel will work much as the cats dont mind citrus much, but will try it anyway with the coffee grounds.

i have cats and they were chill with my plants in the past....they like to sleep in the shady pots.....


i just got a medicated idea...plant hell of catnip.....give the kitties what they want......it really easy to grow...

been thinkin about that, but i cant stand them shting in the yard either. i like to go barefoot, and stepping on a random kitty mound would not be a good note for the day.

So far I have not seen one felis catus strolling accross my garden since I put down the jars of moth balls. Will see how long this lasts.

btw if you try them take a milk jug and cut out a square just big enough to put on the trap pan. so the target area on the trap is much larger than just that small pan/trigger already on there. even if you dont catch the little bastards when they set it off it will whack em a good one. also if you put these out be sure to dig out a flat area just big enough to bed the trap in it and lightly cover it with dirt just to break up the outline. could help to even sprinkle some grass over it to further conceal it. if you do happen to catch on it will just be running around with a rat trap on it foot. miserably (I am not a fan of cats whatsoever. lol if it were me i'd shoot em with a pellet gun..... fuck the neighbor. or just call the damn pound and tell em to come "rescue" them.

I like the idea of planting a little patch of catnip far away from your plants...that way all the cats go to it, and not your plants...and it is funny to watch cats with catnip...lol

I think I might be able to convince my neighbor to actualy plant the catnip on their property. Will see how good I do at convincing them that it would be best for their little babies.

Still one very persistant firball forcing its way in to see my girls. Finaly said screw it and put a piece of chicken wire in front of that area. See how its wittle paws like stepping on wire. If that doesnt work ill make a mat of barbed wire to set down in front. Either way these pesky critters are staying out!
