I'm not expecting the Trump presidency to be popular, and it will likely fracture the Republican party, perhaps even blow it up. This gives the left plenty of time to regroup and come back for big pick ups. All that is required is honesty and openness, which would have won the last election had Hillary been capable of it. How far to tack to the left is a question of what it will take to get elected. The worse Trump performs the bigger the opportunity to run further left and still win. If I'm wrong and Trump does well, there won't be a path to victory going further left. So I think it is too early to know where to position. The left needs candidates of high integrity in both moderate and progressive positions to be able to win.
