The Doors

I enjoy everything until Morrison lost his voice. For example, I prefer Travis Meek's cover of "LA Woman" (on the Stoned Immaculate album) to the original.

But The Doors is one hell of a band. Jim Morrison was one of the better lyricists of the era. I'm also a fan of his poetry.

Anyone else?

I'm fan of it since I start using weed, which isn't very long. But I have some music from them. The crystal Ship is amazing, and youtube teaches me some good songs too!
It feels to me like a less heavy Dire Straits.

I'm a big Doors fan, especially the live albums.

Alive She Cried is pretty good, although Morrison sounds totally wasted. Great versions of "Gloria" and "Moonlight Drive".

Absolutely Live is an an amazing album, just fucking amazing.

And let's not forget An American Prayer.

Lighter Dire Straits. That's actually not a bad description. Although... and correct me if I'm wrong... didn't The Doors come first? I thought they were an inspiration for Dire Straits. But like I said... could be wrong.

I love Absolutely Live and American Prayer. I don't have Alive She Cried, but I do have "Gloria" and "Moonlight Drive" from it, so I guess it's time to buy the album...

He heard of Dire Straits sooner than I heard of the Doors, so that's how I feel it. Not offending the Doors at any rate! They're beautiful! But I listen to quite much musicstyles so I order them like that; for example I order Metallica as an after Slayer but they came from about the same time. I also order the Pixies as the great chief of surf-music. I'm always reminding things when I listen to music8)

EDIT: And I think you're right about the Doors are elder than Dire Straits;-)

Huge, huge, huge fucking doors fan. I love them to death (heh). I just wish I could have been alive in that era. Imagine how controversial some of these songs are by 1960's standards. I live in the desert and every time I go camping I just keep The Doors on repeat. It's like they made everything in the desert it just sounds so good with that landscape.

Anyway, get a hold of some mushrooms and listen to An American Prayer. So good. And of course, The Doors self-named album.

Jim Morrison was just such an intense guy. But I really think he was a shaman for the 21st century. Just reading his poetry and listening to those lyrics you know he's onto something big. And really, he lived the shaman life, living between being perpetually fucked up and reality.

Dead cats, dead rats

Wishing he could come, yeah
Sucking on the soldier's brain
Wishing it would be the same

Dead cat, dead rat
Can't you see what they were at?
Fat cat in a top hat
Thinks hes an aristocrat
Thinks he can kill and slaughter
Thinks he can shoot my daughter

Yeah right! oh yeah!

Dead cats, dead rats
