Hello brothers, I’m looking to start growing this summer and I’m very happy. One issue that concerns me is smell. While it’s okay to grow, I don’t want to inconvenience my neighbors with the smell out of respect for both parties since I live in a wealthier snobby area.. I have a 6 inch Carbon filter(9" x 22") with a induct fan(with controller) rated up to 450 CFM on an enclosed 5x5 tent. Would this be enough for the smell? By smell I mean If someone walked in your house would it smell immediately. I’ve only grown NL outside deep in my property and it was low odor but it still smelled. If it was inside it would have been an issue. Tell me your experience with the filter or smelling issues if you can. Thanks for any suggestions you guys have and happy growing!

Thats plenty. As long you have negative pressure in your tent (walls look like they being sucked in) you're good. The filter is rated for 6" so it can handle 6" of air flow. As for effectiveness that will come down to factors like heat (which makes the plant emit more funk) and quality of the carbon, how much carbon is in the filter etc.
Remember to "save" your filter for when you need it. You do not need it attached when vegging and probably up to week 2 of flower. During veg and when the plant is large, with the filter detached you may notice a "planty" smell. The smell is just all chlorophyll in the leaves and isn't something you would specifically associate with cannabis. Its usually something you can (i do) live with and it will save you money on replacing filters.

Interesting! I didn’t know that. Most carbon filters I’ve read don’t last more then a year since marijuana has some funk to it. I’m going to use this method to save from spending another can filter(expensive) since you’re right, my NL didnt smell until 1 half week into flowering thanks brother!

Carbon filters are exceptionally effective at odor control (assuming the room is otherwise sealed, such as in a grow tent), just make sure the filter is compatible with the fan you’re using, by that I mean the fan can’t be too strong / powerful for the filter, or the air won’t have enough time to be scrubbed, so make sure the air speed specifications of the filter and fan match.
@BigCityFarmer Thanks for the info! I'll set the fan speed at around 30% of it's capacity or when I notice some negative pressure in tent but at the same time it properly filters the odor. would Ona gel laying outside of the tent be over kill when opening the tent for daily checks (water, humidity, soil,nutrients, tops etc)

Hello Spliff, I live in an area where alot of people retire in Rhode island so I don't have much property other then 2 acres. It's an expensive area for this reason, and also being close to the ocean. Got to make due with what I got.
