Shotgun is a good close up defense weapon, I'd prefer to get them a little further out, a good deer rifle makes a good sniper rifle, and for mass attacks, like ten or twenty mean ass gang bangers, a good assault rifle is a definent need, and then of course one needs at least a couple of good handguns. Hopefully, I'll never have to use any of them, but just in case, I'm prepared. I need to go to the next gunshow and stock up on Ammo. BTW, 00 buck is a good choice for the shotgun, 9 .33 caliber lead balls, hard to miss with that, only good for about 100 ft though, after that a good leather jacket would probably stop them.I'll go shotgun, should be easier to hit shit since I'm a gun-tard.

Well concerning guns and all....most people have them and a good percentage actually do fire them. This does not equate proficiency. At one of my other places we have a professionally designed NRA gun range. Those guys were great by the way, came in last year and revamped everything for us...very sweet result.
However, as i see folks constantly plinking away at targets and getting good if not great results, I know they think they can handle the weapon and maybe they can. The matter is can you put it down on a human target and pull the trigger with deadly accuracy, perhaps even while you are under fire. this is very very different scenario than what most people practice at the ranges and backyards

So you think you can shoot? okay, next time you are at a range, make sure everybody knows you are hot.... pick up your weapon and put 2 quick shots on target. Then do 30 jumping jacks in place... then IMMEDIATELY pick up that weapon and put 2 quick shots on target. that second score will more than likely be your true accuracy in an encounter. Not perfect but pretty close. When you can hit the black twice...I'd say you are proficient.
By the way if you go to a public range, talk to the instructor and tell him what you plan to do. They may not let you or they may have their own suggestion.
