The problem cc is the government is never going to shrink like we want it, we need to make it work for us, we can't expect them to undo all these gravy trains they have set up. We just have to make the trains run on our schedule.

The ultimate responsibility we have in this world is to ourselves. Selfish? Greedy? I do not think so. I call it self-reliance. But it is that quality which guarantees our survival. In many ways, greed as you label it, is good.
I have no responsibility to see to the needs of others who made bad choices. None. Not a fucking thing.
Forget about the world, we have absolutely no responsibility to improve the lot of people in a Third World shithole dominated by corruption. Allowing legal immigration is enough.
It is naive to believe that you can eliminate greed; either through legislation or decree. It will never happen.
Depend on the government to meet your needs and you will eventually find yourself on the roof of your house waiting to be rescued after the hurricane.
Choose to have a child and that child is your responsibility. Otherwise, why is Roe v. Wade such a landmark case? Roe v. Wade gave women the option of terminating unwanted pregnancies. It's all about choice. Can't afford to raise a child? Don't spread your legs. Use a condom. Get an abortion. Put the child up for adoption. Plenty of choices.

Johnny, on one hand I agree. On the other, having experienced circumstances beyond my control (and despite my best efforts to control them), I have a distinct appreciation for the concept of charity and having "someone" there to help when you need it. Life is not so cut and dried in my experience, nothing is ever black and white, or even shades of gray, there is a whole spectrum that goes along with. Thusly, situational ethics are allowable in my mind.
First case in point that pops into my head; the riots after the ruling on the Rodney King beating. There were people who completely took advantage of the situation, people who did horrid atrocious things. And then there were people who found themselves in the middle of a war zone and just needed some fucking diapers for their baby, and some food and milk.
