The French Cannoli` Hash Thread

Thanks!

I know, right. It was glitching out badly yesterday.

Matt Rize is actually the one from whom I learned how to micro-plane.

I wear gloves that I keep in the freezer (helps keep my body heat from melting the hash too quickly) and the second the frozen hash chunk starts to get too gooey I put the chunk back in the freezer - repeat. Once I am done planing it, I put the fluff in the refrigerator for a week covered with a paper towel. This cold dries the hash. After that you can store it, or press it, or enjoy it :bigjoint:

Cheers,
Mo
So when you take the lumps from the bags, do you place them on the drying screen first, then into the freezer ? Do you dab the lumps or anything ? Great idea using the gloves from the freezer, i will have to get a room colder for my next run the last one was too warm. Temp was probably around mid 20s so that can't of helped.

I have a batch of Incredible Bulk in the freezer at the minute and a new washing machine, i normally mixed by hand with a wooden spoon so i can't wait to try it out. The poor arm can get sore after the 5th or 6th mix :-)

What do you guys think about using moldy weed for bubble hash ? I just finished drying a crop of Incredible Bulk, unfortunately i had some mold issues and lost about 4 or 5 oz. I have the mold separate from the trim in the freezer. Would using moldy buds for bubble hash work ? Iv read the mold molecules or whatever are smaller than the 25micron bag so they run out with the drain water. I don't want to take a chance smoking moldy hash but there is a shit ton of big buds sitting there, and really frosty. Shame to throw them out. I was thinking of using the 43 and throwing the 25 just to be safe.

I have read that you can add H2O2 to the water to wash PM away. I wouldn't risk using any subpar material.

When I collect my resin I use a separate 3 gallon bucket.
  1. Place the bag in the 3 gallon bucket.
  2. Wash the resin with ice water to the center of the bag mesh.
  3. Pull the sides of the bag down the outside of the bucket creating suction the pulls air through the pile of resin.
  4. Scoop the pile out of the bag with a large serving spoon.
  5. Place the resin on the drying mat (with a thick towel underneath).
  6. Place the second drying mat over the resin.
  7. Place a thick towel on top of the second drying mat and press hard.
  8. Place the dry flat chunk in the freezer for 20 minutes.
  9. Microplane the chunk and dry the fluff in the fridge covered with a paper towel for a week.
Cheers,
Mo

Hello TCurtiss - Why do these links (posted from pages 1 through 17 (as far as I've gotten now through the thread) all get from Youtube "This video is unavailable"? Have they become available elsewhere? Many thanks.

It’s to my understanding he ripped off some people in the industry and that’s why all his pics/YouTube vids are gone. He’s been gone for some time.

Thanks for letting me know! ... Hello-hello.. calling Frenchy.. you still here mon amie? Very sorry to have missed you a recent seminar. Can you put the videos back up? I've seen what's listed at your site, but I'm unable to find anywhere video 2 which (I think) goes more into drying.

By the way - Laurence's book vol. 1 can be purchased from him via Paypal for $60.00 (doesn't include shipping). Being a new member I'm not able to post the link, but Google the book, then look for his own site, titled "thegreatbooksofhashish"

Frenchy - further sleuthing led me to some of your articles, and I found what I was looking for. Merci!

So they have different types, are you using zesters?
the zester works fine, as does the wider version. i have them both. highly recommended. i bought two so one can be in the freezer while i use the other one, and swap them out when they get too warm. also only remove as much product from the freezer as you can microplane before it starts getting warm. putting your fingers on ice before handling the product will buy you a few more seconds of microplaning before it starts to warm. Good Luck :)

Hello all,

I have just finished the entire thread after finding it a few days ago.

Thank you Frenchy, Mo, and all the others that have shared their knowledge so freely here.

Since I have learned so much from your teachings, I have a couple ideas to share. The pictures are my first attempt at trying this, so any thoughts and ideas are more than welcome.

I have a 3" x 5" heat press for pressing rosin mounted to a cheap 12 ton press.
1 rosin heat press.jpg 2 press.jpg

I turned the temp down to 180F, much hotter and this particular run starts turning to liquid.
*Note! I am not so much pressing with this setup. I am using it for a constant heat source. I set the release valve light enough to twist open with my fingers, and only use my hand to operate the pump. By applying gentle increasing pressure along with the heat, I press down to about a 1/4" thick, adjusting the position depending on if it squeezes out the side.

I did not heat for very long, maybe 30-45 seconds per gentle press down to 1/4" thick, give or take.

From here, I took this chunk of now heated love goo to the next post.... See you there.

Oh, here we are.

Once heated, I then took the wrapped pre-hash to the kitchen and rolled it out with a jar of hot water.

I then took an ice pack from the freezer, (best place to keep one lol) and, used that to release the hash from the plastic. This works great for sticky extracts as well, but, the extract can shatter all over the room if you are not prepared. I have witnessed this a few times.

After a few cycles of the above, I ended up with this.

The Cannoli pic is dark. It sagged and goes soft in minutes at room temp.
Here are a couple close ups of the edge and surface of the Cannoli.

This is now going into curing with a couple smaller pieces to "nibble" on while I wait it out.
Is it looking up to par?

Frenchy, If you still frequent the forums, You posted that you prefer a waxy finished product. Do you achieve this by preparing your personal stash with more humidity? Can you post a picture of what you prefer and what is "normal" for lack of a better term? It sounded like it was a preference primarily due to how you smoke.

Thanks again for all the knowledge passed along here.

My first attempt at dry ice hash! I'd call it a success, a noobie success perhaps, but a success regardless.
I started with one pound of very dry MamaThai x Pineapple Chuck which is a very dense and resinous producer. I crumbled the flower by hand as gently as possible and sieved it first through a 72 micron screen with about 5 pounds of crushed dry ice. The resultant hash is a very nice blonde, but in retrospect I should have ceased extraction at the very first sign of green. The balance of the extraction was done with a 120 micron screen and the result is much more green.
I don't use cannabis. I used to wake and bake, but it just isn't for me anymore. I grow for my brother's medical needs and have done 200 proof EtOH extractions with vacuum assist and almost complete recovery of the alcohol. My raison d'être is learning and experimentation, and the ultimate goal with the dry ice method is twofold; to reduce the time to derive a decarboxylated medically beneficial product for mixing with MCT for sublingual use, and to produce a concentrated natural resin with which to test dissolution times and solute concentration limits in EtOH.
My yield was 2.0ozs of blonde and 2.4ozs of green. Good times.

I would in no way put the quality of dry ice hash up against ice water hash, but for my purposes it is acceptable. That green stuff is horrible, I'm sure, but a little post-processing will improve it.
