Aren't Canadians allowed Rifles?
I said I don't own Hand Guns, I have a 12gage Pump Shotgun, a .22 long rifle and a 30-06 rifle.... I use these guns for hunting.
I don't own hand guns by choice.

The Shotgun is for bird hunting, (quail, phesent ect), the .22 is for small animal hunting (rabbit, squarrel ect) the 30-06 is for bigger game (Deer, Elk ect.) The thing is I eat the animals I kill, I don't put stupid deer heads in my house because I think they look tacky.

If your seriously thinking about getting a gun, than I would advise that you go to some kind of hunters education(its was free in my area) program and also to be careful with firearms, be a responsible gun owner. (try not to give gun owners a bad name:mrgreen: ....sorry, I just had to add my two cents, its nothing personal)

I think we would get along great!

I love to hunt, but I don't hunt unless I eat my prey(unless its predator hunting, but I haven't done any predator hunting, myself). But I do have a deer head hanging at my house because I'm proud. I got a HUGE(!!!!!) 7 pointer with a bow the second year of learning to deer hunt. ~LOL~ sorry for getting off the subject, I'm just getting excited thinking about it because I don't get to hunt much anymore:cry:

No offense taken. If my dad would have lived long enough, he'd have taught me how to handle a gun. He taught all the kids.So of course I know about being responsible with them,but yeah, I'd definitely get some training. Right now, if anyone breaks in my house, theyre gonna have to settle for getting hacked on with a rusty machete.:spew:

There is something to be said for the formidable sound of a round being jacked into a 12 guage pump. That sound alone would raise the hair on the back of most burglars necks if they had 2 brain cells. I keep a .45 handy and know how to use it, it's pretty easy, point and pull the trigger.

so you would kill someone trying to steal your possessions huh? that is the mentality in america which is why some people think guns should be banned. the mentality that we can solve any or all of our problems by pulling "a trigger" is quite ridiculous. History should have taught us all this lesson.

because we all live in fear of the burglar with a gun we feel the need to own one ourselves. what if there were no guns and a burglar was in your home what would you do? Confront them with maybe a knife or some kind of weapon, if that weapon did not have a trigger, mortality rates would plummett.

i have no problems with people hunting and eating the animals they have killed, but still so much of it is wasted. i come from a very pro-gun family and have never felt the need to own one! I do oppose handguns and assault rifles, these are designed as human killers first and "hunting" weapons as an excuse.

i know this will get me some heated remarks but that is just the way i feel!

I too have no problem with decent people having guns. It's just too damn easy for these kids to get them and go shoot up a tone of ppl in high schools and universities. Or parents who leave the gun out "in case of emergency" and little johnny comes home from school pissed cause someone stole his lunch money. If this wasn't the case I don't think gun control would be an issue.

I know if I was to live in the U.S I would first off go and get a gun. just cause everyone has em. That way if some crazy fucker walks into my class guns blazing I can take him/her down. maybe.

If someone breaks into my home then I assume he/she is there to do more then just steal from me. I assume they are there to do me harm. In a situation of home invasion there is no time to stop and interview the criminal about their intentions. My State says I have the right to make that assumption, I have the right to STAND MY GROUND and use deadly force to defend myself without fear of prosecution.

I'm a single female and I live alone.... I have guns.... and I'm not afraid to use them. If someone breaks into my home... it will be the last home they ever break into.

What would I use??? I guess I'd keep my chainsaw handy... either way the criminal motherfucker who breaks into my house when I'm home is leaving in a body bag!

Something to keep in mind before you go spouting off about how guns shouldn't even be a consideration for defense and protection.... how well do you think a woman (assuming she isn't a Marine or Martial Arts expert) is going to do in hand-to-hand combat with a male intruder? Take away the guns and the criminals aren't going to suffer.... but their victims surely will.

Hand to hand combat against a thug......uhhhh no thanks. I prefer to live by the following: "Trespassers will be shot.... survivors will be shot again".

I'm American.... I love my guns.... and I'm a card carrying member of the NRA!!

yea, floridagirl i agree, if someone is in my home and i feel my life or that of my wife may be in danger, i would be ready and willing to take a life, my overall argument is that if everyone has that opinion, then crime rates go up.

if im a criminal with that opinion and i have a gun, fuck the home owner, ill shoot him or her in the face if they fuck with me, this is a spiraling theme of violence everywhere. this is an attitude that comes from a gun loving country?

I wonder if we will ever know what kind of damage firearms have done to date world-wide. I really am not concerned if you are a card carrying member of the nra, that is not justification for killing someone, is it? if i know there is someone in my home without my consent, i'd get the hell out of my house and try not to confront the person! i would want to escape without having someone try and take my life, or without having to take someone elses. they might only be there to try and steal my tv....not that big a deal. how bout that for an idea, acts of violence should be a last resort.

That is simply NOT true! The mere ownership of a gun does not promote crime. I've owned guns my entire life and never once have I ever even thought about using it to commit a crime. If I kill an intruder that is NOT a crime... so the crime rate isn't going up... in fact it should go down as that POS won't be around to rob someone else.

I'll take my chances with my gun. I have the advantage of knowing the layout of my home.. even in the dark (which is an advantage in a gun battle). I'm also betting that I spend more time at the firing range then some lowlife criminal

Not surprisingly I don't agree with that either. "Only" there for my TV? Fuck that... they can't have it! Is it worth someone's life? I would say the criminal who breaks in made the decision that it was when they decided to break in.

As to that "violence as a last resort" statement... I just do NOT get that! I'm here in my OWN home... minding my OWN business.... and someone comes crashing through my door and says "don't move... I'm only here for your TV" ... and I'm supposed to do nothing? ROFL....... I don't think so! That just goes against every fiber of my being!

You certainly have the right to defend yourself however you see fit... don't like guns... good don't get one. Fleeing is the way you choose to go then I say good for you....even better for the lucky bastard criminal who chooses your home to invade.

I too have the right to defend myself as I see fit. My State says I don't have to flee... I'm entitled to stand my ground and use deadly force if I choose to do so.....

Right on FG, I'm of the same mind here. It was the stupid criminal that came through my door into my sacred domain that chose to die. How do I know what his intentions are. My intentions are to make damn sure he doesn't harm any member of my family and get a chance to do it again. I hope I never have to kill another human being. I survived Viet-Nam without knowingly killing anyone, thank God, and I hope no stupid criminmal makes me do him in. The choice will be his.

thats cool, but pepetuating the myth that guns dont cause violence is beyond my understanding. im glad your a responsible gun owner and i come from a family that also taught me to shoot and treat a firearm with responsibility and respect.
as far as my comment on the nra, i just didnt see the need for you to end your statement with the nra plug, it seems like it summed up your argument but i may have misread.
Most of us have homeowners insurance, or renters insurance, if we can afford it. That was why i would say that the material things in my home are not as important as my life or those i love, so my 1st reaction would be to get my wife and myself to a safe place, not engage in a gun battle, i am no coward but i think the odds of not getting hurt are better if i bail out a window and call the cops and follow the fuckers when they leave my home, unless of course im growing then no, i wouldnt call the cops.

i know i could never change your mind on this subject and you mine but for now ill just agree to disagree and hope no poor bastard breaks into your home. i would look at the violent death rates in countrys that have regulated firearms more than the usa like canada, or norway, sweden, finland, very low violent crime rates, compared to the us where gun related fatalities have to be among the highest in the world. hmmmm, maybe a link there?

If you are in your locked bedroom, and you hear a noise in your house, you would really grab your gun and try to confront the person inside your home? What if they have a gun? You are gonna risk your life and take someone else's over a TV. Have you ever seen a person get shot?...Have you seen a persons brains? Have you ever watched someone bleed to death? What if you turned on the light after and it was 15 year old kids brains you just splattered all over your carpet...perhaps your tv wouldnt seem so valuable anymore...or would you still think it was his decision to die?
