The Lavatory Log - My First Grow Journal

This is a little behind, but I was ashamed to post it. The above feeder I came up had one small problem - the last time I used the nozzle it was for WEED KILLER :wall:

I had rinsed it out thoroughly, but the first plant seemed to get some residue. I had quite a bit of yellowing the next day on the plant. A week later it still doing strong, but I still have yellow leaves. The other two plants ended up having a few leaves turn yellow and ended up falling off. They seemed to recover 100%. The plants still have about 4 weeks to go so I am figuring if the one plant survives and recovers it should be safe to smoke.

As mentioned before, two of my three plants have fully recovered from the weed killer incident and the third is coming along.

I am starting a second crop. I ended up germinating 16 seeds out the original grab bag. I figure if I doubled the amount I start with I should end up with twice as many females.

The light is currently on a 12/12 schedule with about 4 weeks to go on my original crop. I am trying a straight to flower on these. I figure I can harvest these four or five weeks out beyond the first harvest. Even if I didn't harvest it seems worth it on seeds to get the males out without veg'ing them at all. Again, it's just bag seed. I am just geeked to be able to harvest that soon after - maybe soon enough to stretch the first harvest out :weed:

Here is the latest update on my grow.

The plants have fully recovered from the weed killer incident, although, they made need therapy. All of the leaves that turned yellow have dropped off now and it appears to be healthy. Since it was all bag seed I have named the one "Weed Killer". Catchy? I am going to propagate it for a second generation. It may turn out to be great smoke :weed: - it does look more like a Sativa although I don't really have the experience to tell. What do you guys think?

A week on after germination and my seedlings have taken off. Looks like all 16 are doing good.

Couple questions: 1) They look a little stretchy but I've got them under my 400W hood. I can't imagine they don't get enough light. 2) Some are pushing right into the lid of my seedling container. It doesn't seem to hurt them. I am hoping it counter reacts the stretchy-ness - that is pushing against the lid keeps them short and makes them stronger.

If you go back to my first entries I had a stretchy seedlings that eventually couldn't even hold up their heads and flopped over. I had to put them in little straw casts. I got them closer to the light which helped, but I didn't fully resolve the problem until I potted them deeper in dirt from the hydroton. I would like to keep them in the little dixie cups until they show their sex and just re-pot the females.

I got some new additions to the family last week. I had called a buddy about a month ago about getting some clones and didn't hear anything back. I ended up germinating more of the bag seed because I didn't think I was getting any clones. I ended getting a call about four hours after getting my seedlings into the dixie cups.

Two are "Buffalo" and one is "Atomic" or "Atomic Punk" or "Andes". He said it's been called a few things, but I hadn't heard of either. The guy's been growing them for several years. He said the genetics originate from Amsterdam.

I'll post better pics in a few days. This was mid-transplant from the plastic cups they came in.

One more update :)

The biggest problem I was having was heat. I added more bulbs which kicked up the heat. I lifted the light a little higher than what I wanted, but I was still running in the low `90s. I put together a water cooled light. First just a simple 1/4 line and then a 1/2 line directly in the light. The line runs to a water pump in a 5 gallon bucket plugged into the light timer. This allowed me to lower the light another four inches to where it should be and brought the temps down to the upper `70s.

Well, I added an unexpected clone to my seedling tray today. I hadn't planned on taking clones until harvest, one or two from the harvested plants and several from my existing clones, but I dropped a clamp light on one of the clones. It severed a small branch just off the main shoot. I cut it off and decided what the hell I would try a clone. It had a single fan leaf on it that flopped on it's backside shortly after putting it in dirt. After several hours under the light, it perked back up so I am hopeful it will make it. I didn't have any root hormone - I was planning to pick that up this weekend.

Just a few updates since the last post.

The clones are really growing like weeds. The "Atomic" is a monster. They have tripled in size/volume in just two weeks!

I tried topping one, but I guess clones don't top the same as they do from seeds. I expected the little side shoots to take right off, but they haven't. The other two side limbs have gone way up. I think this one might just end up making two clones, though.

My seedlings are coming along. They're starting to exceed the capacity of the little dome and I am starting to get green funk on top of the soil from keeping it moist. I was hoping to grow them in there until I knew the sex, but I don't think I they can wait that long.

Of my full size plants, I ended up harvesting one. I started plucking a few small ones and finished it by the end of the week. Part of was that I just couldn't stand it any longer and part of it was cultivator experience. I wanted to sample on the early side. This grow is all about the experience. I got pics of all but the the two main colas and one little one off the more sativa plant.
