The Lazarus Grow: my first grow in almost 18 years

I decided to rig something up so I could collect pollen from the main plant. Someone said that he kinda looks like a dragon in one of the photos, so I’m gonna name him Draco. Maybe I can keep him alive as a houseplant.

As you can see, it’s just a cone of waxed paper tied around the bottom with floral wire, and a band of Saran Wrap to help keep anything from spilling. When he’s done, I can tip him over and carefully remove it over a plate of glass or something.

I have crossed him to a IBL White Rhino, a MMXX from Twenty20, and a Poison Daddy F2. I might go ahead and seed all the rest of them too, I am not sure yet.

This stupid simple collection rig for branches is working well. I already have a little pile of pollen in there, and it only just started opening yesterday (on the full moon!).

So, here we are, 3 weeks into flowering. The stretch is over and the girls are transitioning into full flowering mode. I’m down two plants: one of them turned full hermie, and the autoflowering Trizzlers got taken down because it was done.

Trizzlers was a fairly big disappointment, it was a freebie but it stunted badly and just didn’t produce anything. Plus, the high was meh at best. I think I got maybe 3 grams from it, if that much. It’s mostly stems.

I’ve pollinated all the girls by dipping a finger in pollen and dabbing it lightly on the lower nodes.

We’re 4 weeks into flowering and things are looking good. I pulled Dirty Martini (freebie auto from Mendocino Twenty20) out and gave her a good look; she is getting close, but not quite there yet. I haven’t touched her since putting her in the room, except for giving her water. She’s under the HPS to hopefully finish up soon.

The girls are starting to get top heavy, so I’m probably going to stake them soon- just as a precaution. It’s the full moon, so they’ll get their last dusting of pollen and another shot of fertilizer. Hopefully that will be enough to get them through to the finish line.

We’re 6 weeks in, and things are looking good. I hit the girls with 3-2-1 GH, plus Floralicious (I found an old bottle with just enough left for one dose), because they are seeded (on purpose) and will need the extra nutrients to finish.

Dirty Martini is a strange plant. Usually the top cola finishes first, then the lower branches, but this thing is backwards. The lower branches are basically done, but the top is still going. So, I harvested the lower branches and hit her with some fertilizer. She can throw everything she’s got into that top cola, I don’t mind.

I sampled a little of the shittiest lower bud, and immediately lost vision in my right ear. I think this might be interesting. I didn’t intentionally seed her, but she will probably have a few from the pollen that drifted around. 8C411162-A1BE-4E51-B4E3-2E75525F6130.jpegD0EB63D0-56E6-4852-91A8-21F1E2A7D2BC.jpeg
A lower branch, hopefully you can see that there’s few or no new pistils growing, and what’s there is turning brown.2C3A9E9A-58DA-4F2A-9FA5-A6E19FC596BF.jpeg
This is the top cola, you can very clearly see lots of new pistils. She’s not ready yet, at least not up here.F6B9C793-4425-4055-BC0F-06D6C83ECE2C.jpeg
I cut off the lower branches that looked done, and hung them up next to the fan (which runs 24/7) to dry. It’s been extremely dusty because of the drought and all the wind, so it all winds up on the filter sock. I’m hoping to upgrade to an AC Infinity system later, but for now this is going to have to do. I know that the room will get way too hot with the HPS in the summer, so I will shut it down and grow other things in here under the LEDs. I will do another grow later this fall.

Week two of flowering, and I think the stretch is finally starting to slow down. I probably should have taken off more of the lower branches, but I might dust them with pollen from my bizarre mutant male:

My girls are looking pretty good, but I am doing a bit of rearranging tonight after I take the Trizzlers auto out of the room. She’s basically done and I need the space she’s occupying:

Another look at the ladies:

That is the most painfully polyploid male EVER! It's fun, or whatever, but, in my experience, polyploid females are weak sauce.

Everything else looks great, though. Sorry, not trying to  on your thread, I just remembered polyploids I've known, and the bud is usually woody, not resinous, and generally just not worth it.

My experience with polyploid prone females has been one branch, or even one apical bud, though, and not the whole plant. So, that's a bit different from your male.
