The life of a west coast weed grower

Ok, this is pretty fucking funny. So I live in Portland (the livable city with an infestation of skinny kids with beards and fixie bikes) and pretty much everyone grows weed. Seriously. I see it all the time. Guys carrying stacks of soil, nutrient bottles spilling out of recycling bind and guys at the unicipal dump throwing 30 gallon containers of dirt with green stalks chopped at the base.

Anyways, my partner and I just finished a run in our vert room and needed to clean everything out. So we load up my trailer with 21, eighteen gallon totes full of perlite, about three lawn waste bags full of stalks and fan leaves and a kitchen bag full of popcorn and fluff that we just said...I don't know or care...just fucking dump it.

So off to the dump we go. You have to tarp your loads at the dump or pay double and lawn waste is really cheap to throw away.

So we pull in the scale... "What do you have in the trailer?"
"A bunch of yard waste"
"Are you sure that's it?"
"Umm, yeah why?"
"I think you guys had a skunk crawl in there, I can smell him from here"

Lmfao. I could barely contain myself. I was doing that don't laugh, snort through the nose" thing
"No mam, I'm pretty sure no skunk in there, but if we see him we will throw him out"

Then when we are dumping all this shit ton if perlite and bags that are busted with trim spilling out one of the workers starts to walk over. Before he can say anything my partner says " cannabis cultivation". The guy doesn't even bat an eye. "Try to cover up the leaves and stuff or people will start picking through it' and walks away.

Oh how times have changed!!!

this last summer, the plastic on my greenhouse ripped and i had to redo it all in mid september.

only one of my neighbors didn't know what i was growing in that greenhouse, it was my 70 year old neighbor who stops by to take care of her 107 year old mother.

anyhoo, i have all the plastic off so i can put new plastic on when she walks out to her backyard.

"unclebuck, is that what i think it is?", she asks.

"yep, i'm part of the OMMP program if you want to see my paperwork, barbara", i reply.

"oh, i could really tell you some stories about the 70s" was all she said back to me before she went back to tending her garden.

welcome to portland.
