If I were growing outdoors, when should I start seeds? I dont want the plants to get too big. 4-5 ft plants max.

I'd start now. Depending on where you live mid May I'd put them out. Remember just don't stick them out in the sun at first.

I wouldn't worry about height. They can always be trained.

I have been mainlining for about 6 weeks and my plants are almost up past the 14" ring. My question is do I trim everything off below the tomato rings? And allow everything to grow above them?

Thanks

Malazan, I did that this time and my ring is only 10 inchs off soil line. I think it was too much. next grow I am going with a shorter ring and trim to just below the ring, then let her go.Here is a pic of this grow, once it reached the ring and I put it into 12/12 it streached big leaving just a stick below.

Well Sunday I harvest. It will be 4/20/14 so I will get up a little before 4:20 AM and begin trim and want to finish by 4:20 PM. That will be day 64, I was going to wait till day 70 but viewing them with the 60/100 scope Wednesday and have about 10 % amber and about 20 % clear, so 70% are cloudy. I will then hang them to begin the drying process.
They are nice but as I said I waited to long to put them in flower and trimmed to much undergrowth. I am still learning the Mainlining method, next falls grow will be better.

This is my second Mainline, first one I thought I did not take enough off and this one I think I trimmed too much. This grow Ithink I took too much off. Oh well, there is always next grow. This is going to be some good smoke, if smell is any indication.
