The Nighttime Wilt

Anybody else notice their plants wilt at the beginnings of the nighttime cycle? I've seen it in both indoor and outdoor plants, and would be interested to hear if anybody has the reason for it happening.

I've never actually been conscience of it, but it's most likely due to the fact that the leaves are no longer photosynthesizing and don't need to be held up where they are most effective, so they relax. Watch some time lapse videos of plants.sometime and watch how they react to light

That makes perfect sense actually... Just never really think of a plant "relaxing" you know? maybe it's because I don't pay as close attention to other plants, but I've only ever taken note of the wilt with MJ.

Yes, it is very common. You will see plants track the sun during the day and then lay down their leaves at sunset. You will also see them lay down if there is a sudden decrease in temperature. It is a response to both changes in light and changes in temperature. One more reason not to evaluate your plants for watering needs at sunset because you get a lot of false reads from the leaf structure at that time of day.

Excellent! Yes like I mentioned I've noticed it both indoors and out and have leaned toward natural responses to light at least... Temperature makes sense too, since both light and temperature both decrease at sundown.

you'll also see them perk up right before lights on. Probably more efficient to "relax" so to speak and just use up stored starches through the night

IMO it does seem to be strain specific, as I've had one droop at night and the one beside it does not...but as most folks are saying, nothing to worry about

interesting observation. So between species ( C. indica vs C. sativa), or between varieties?

I've observed this in all my grows , if the plants are on a 18/6 light schedule they will droop an hour to half hour before lights out and they will perk up right before lights come on its like they know when its bedtime. Even if the plants are under 24hrs of light there is a certain time everyday where they will droop a few hours that's why I never run 24hrs anymore because like it or not plants need there dark time
