anyone run any side by sides with HG versus any other companies? my buddy in SoCal is doin a Canna VS HG now so ill report on in when i know more!

I've tested almost every product line against my control H&G group. Nothing compares to the flavor and quality produced. Not only have I tried all the lines but I've run every type of system imaginable from; Ebb 'n Flo, top feed rockwool, clay pellets, deep water culture, aeroponics, coco, NFT, dutch buckets, bio buckets and custom hybrids.

My complaints of H&G are:
Algen Extract - gooey over time and doesn't mix well in res if it gets old. Solution is to throw away about half way through bottle
Top Booster - HOT, HOT, HOT I never use full strength unless I can raise lights 24" higher then normal light position. Also, in week 5 I run the solution normal without Top Booster until 4th day of week. I add it slowly over time through out the 4th day. If added too soon in week 5 or don't raise the lights it burns very badly. Strong stuff
Also, I never use it on outdoor crops. Instead I alter watering cycle in week 5 and shade the greenhouse to simulate an optical drought artificially.
Coco A&B - Can be hard to keep all growth uniformly healthy. I've ran foliage test to find out nutrient levels while running Coco A&B. Every time I find Potasium levels out of wack which locks out mg and phosp and eventually cal. As a result I tend to run my coco ppm slightly under which causes small deficiencies that I then correct by folair feeding at 25% using Aqua Flakes A&B. This increase in potassium develops as root system starts to take over pot and becomes root bound or air quality is poor.

My H&G likes:
Aqua Flakes - stable, reliable and gentle yet effective
Soil A&B - rarely burns, stays in solution
Drip Clean - keeps my aeroponic emitters in peak condition. Never have clogging issues when DC is added
Multi-Zen - Great pre flower root stimulator when used with Root Excel.
Root Excel - Simply amazing stuff, High degree of quality control from Manufacture. works great with all the other lines too.
Bud XL- Noticeable sweetness transferred to buds.. test sugar content using a brix meter. Results speak for themselves
Shooting Powder - HOT stuff.. explosive growth but can stunt if osmotic pressure is unbalanced.
Magic Green- MG is the magic key...if you use H&G without MG then you will never realize this lines true potential. Chelated Iron is nothing new to horticulture but it's a better product the magic cal. Magic Cal is my 2nd favorite chelated iron supplement plus you get the added cal mag if you need it.

I grow for scientific and medical purposes using high tech instruments to analyze and monitor nutrient levels inside the leafs themselves tested from multiple points on the plant.
H&G routinely produces a balanced spectrum. If I had one overal complaint I wish they would include additional minerals beyond the key 23. Not only is H&G great for cannabis but my hydro food garden love them too. I correct the lack of "additional" minerals in my food garden by adding a sea salt additive to the water before mixing which brings up the nutritional value.

H and G's site said that algen extract can be used as a foliar spray but it didn't list a recommended dosage or solution strength. Anyone tried this or know how to go about trying it out? What ppm's are other foliar sprays? I'm a first timer who's running aero but started from seed in rockwool. NOW I know this is no-no. So I'm just tryin to keep the roots healthy enough to get em large enough to take some decent clones. Is it possible to use roots excel too often or add it to the res too often? Any help or input's appreciated. thanks

Algen extract as a foliar gets messy but it does help stimulate shoot growth if applied directly. It's packed with trace minerals and natural growth hormones. 1-2 mil per gallon to mix. Then dilute the mix with one more gallon or else you can get residues. I personally never use algen extract beyond 1 mil per gallon.
Use root excel at 1.1 per gallon every feeding during veg and there will be no issues with RE itself.

Hello all, looking for some advice! Im using H and G's full coco line with Atami Coco in 3 gallon pots. I have clones in veg right now that are not looking good, from what I can tell it looks like a nitrogen deff. The plants are yellowing and the stems are red. I use tap water with a ppm of 150 and nute strength of about 2.5ml a+b, 2.5 ml cal mag, 2.5ml multizyme, roots excelurator. I water every few days when the coco gets to half its wet weight. Do you guys see anything I could be doing wrong? Anything to counteract this problem?

Cut the multi-zen from your daily feeding. Only use it during pre-flowering or as a flush for mothers or once per week for established healthy mothers. Also cut Cal Mag. the coco formula is packed with Cal Mag already. You are missing a trace mineral supplement. Add algen extract or liquid Karma to the mix to round out the rough edges. Increase feeding ppm as plants grow. Sometimes yellowing is just a mobile nutrient being pulled to new growth other times it serious. Hard to tell with out full garden specs and overal environment profile.

zen for flower, algean for veg.....so they say.

for the N def, add more B, thats where the n is. or get magic green. its awesome. foilar 2 times a week.

rootx reules, and add great white. slow growth, maybe water issue. if using tap, gota let sit 24 hours so chlorine evaporates.

sometimes upping the ph helps the cal mag lockout which happens at 5.9. so go to 6.2, se what happens and take her orm there.

Yes cut out the Multi-zen until the first 3-4 weeks of flowering depending on your strain finishing time. Humidity is a bit low and temp is a tad high for my taste. Here is a few things I would look for.

Pots on cold concrete floor? Root temp
How often is air exchanged?
Using C02?
Root medium type? Is it often wet or dry if left for a few days?
Is yellowing starting at bottom, middle or top? Suffer yellowing leaves turning white almost?
Red stems on entire plant, new growth or old growth?
Any necrosis on leaves? Any twisting, mutated growth or weird spotting on leaves?
Are lower leaves if not yellow abnormally dark green at any point?

If soil stays wet almost all the time ppm is likely too high and nutes have become unavailable.
Flush and start with lower ppm. Keep logs with dates and ppm to know where you are at all times. If soil dries out in between watering then it's safe to increase feeding by 25% (takes notes) and see how she is doing in a few days. Also, make a folair spray of A&B, algen extract if you have it or liquid karma -- keep ppm about 25% of what you would root feed plants and spray plants a few times a day to help get mobile nutrients on the growing shoots to prevent the deficiency from spreading. Make sure to add coco wet or penitrator or even a small amount (1 mil, or 1/4 teaspoon max) of non bacterial none scented dish soap to 1 gallon of your folair spray.

At 2.5 mls per gal of A/B, they might be hungry. I use 5 ml through veg as soon as they are rooted. I agree on the multizyme, not until flower. I always add a little extra cal/mag even when using Cocos. Also, I agree with the magic synergy of Root excel and great white ( works well for cloning). Your tap water is most likely your issue, could be high in Chlorine and who knows what else. If your ppm is over 100, house and garden recommends and R/O filter. Red stems are usually a N def, which would lead us back to the 2.5 mls of A/B. I would up to 5 mls per gal. Just my two cents.

Sorry to bust in here... However I saw your post about Algen Extract and foilar spray.. Do you use this often? And also can you use in flower? One last thing.. How ML's per litre? THANKS!

Thanks Bro. I know what you are talking about. I don't get it much since I started using the Cal/Mag. I still get a spot here or there on the older bottom leaves though. I think it is a mag deficiency that causes that. House and Garden recommends adding some type of cal/mag to their line.

Thanks for the advice! Picked up a nice R/O filter today and who knows what I was thinking putting the multizyme in, also picked up great white as well. What dosage do you usually apply?

I use 1 ml of algen extract per gal and 40 ml per gal of magic green.
