The people behind the Health Care Plan

The following quote is a transcription of remarks made in 2007 by Robert Reich at UC - Berkely. The Youtube video consists of the actual remarks.

I wish politicians on both sides of the debate could be so candid. Furthermore, I imagine many Democrats wish Mr. Reich had not been so candid.

I will actually give you a speech made up entirely--almost at the spur of the moment, of what a candidate for president would say if that candidate did not care about becoming president. In other words, this is what the truth is, and a candidate will never say, but what candidates should say if we were in a kind of democracy where citizens were honored in terms of their practice of citizenship, and they were educated in terms of what the issues were, and they could separate myth from reality in terms of what candidates would tell them:

Thank you so much for coming this afternoon. I'm so glad to see you, and I would like to be president. Let me tell you a few things on health care. Look, we have the only health-care system in the world that is designed to avoid sick people. That's true, and what I'm going to do is I am going to try to reorganize it to be more amenable to treating sick people. But that means you--particularly you young people, particularly you young, healthy people--you're going to have to pay more. Thank you.

And by the way, we are going to have to--if you're very old, we're not going to give you all that technology and all those drugs for the last couple of years of your life to keep you maybe going for another couple of months. It's too expensive, so we're going to let you die.

Also, I'm going to use the bargaining leverage of the federal government in terms of Medicare, Medicaid--we already have a lot of bargaining leverage--to force drug companies and insurance companies and medical suppliers to reduce their costs. But that means less innovation, and that means less new products and less new drugs on the market, which means you are probably not going to live that much longer than your parents. Thank you.

Boiled down:

If you are young and healthy: Expect to pay much more.

If you are middle age: The taxes and restrictions we will impose on the industry will bring costs down, but research and development will be curtailed significantly. Do not expect to exceed your parent's lifespan.

If you are old: Expect to be denied life extending treatment, especially near the end.

The people behind the Health Care Scam...

this is about as fear-mongering, glen beck-induced, uneducated piece of propaganda bullshit I have ever read.

you need to get out more...
Bullshit. You need to pay attention more...Notice campaign contributions to Sen. Max Baucus from the Healthcare Industry over the last year total over $250,000
400
SenateBaucus, MaxDMont.Finance$86,500$34,500$121,000
who also happens to be the 'designer' behind the Senates version of Obama's National Health care Plan...Yes, Max has been 'bought and sold' by the healthcare and health insurance industry; and guess who's gonna' have to pay for it??? That's right, all of us; citizens of this country...probably includes you and me. Max represents my district here in MT, and the majority of the people he represents here are what you might call in the lower middle income bracket.

Although the Senate committee putting forth this bill will not have it's provisions going into effect until January 2013 (coincidentally, right after the 2012 elections) you can be rest assured that the liklely hood of Mr. Baucus being reelected to another term by his constituents in 2010 is slim to none; as they realize the impact that this will have on them either being mandated by law to purchase health insurance they cannot afford or be fined up the ass by the IRS for not doing so.

Also, notice the Dem's who are shoving this bill through have delayed it's going into effect not UNTILL January 2013... So what the fuck are they afraid of anyway??? Duh!:cuss:
