shit ... if you add up the price of a single quality bean , take the weight , make an ounce , & count all those ceeds...
i bet that number is > the price of gold right now
Depends on the beans, and how you're buying them, but if you're buying retail packs from a breeder, its not even close.
Ceeds are a LOT more expensive than gold! In fact, I'm pretty sure on a per plant basis its a LOT more lucrative to sell beans than actual weed!
Here's the numbers: Right now gold is $1240/troy ounce (US Dollars), or $40 per gram.
Depends a little bit on strain, but there are roughly 40-50 ceeds per gram.
If you figure the AVERAGE per ceed pack if you're buying retail breeder packs is $6-8 per ceed, then
retail price per gram for ceeds is $240-$400. So as a quick estimate, ceeds sell for literally 6-8x their weight in gold!
Now, in fact that's a bit distorted, because you're talking about a high specialized product thats smuggled across international borders, greatly increasing the price. You're also talking about retail sale of a small number of ceeds, so there is zero economy of scale, and this is the most expensive way to do it.
If you really wanted to buy ceeds by the ounce (or pound), you shouldn't be buying them in individual breeder packs, but instead making a deal directly with the breeder/bank which should greatly lower the per-bean cost.
As a relevant comparison, sterilized HEMP ceeds only cost a few dollars per POUND. If you're buying them to say, feed your parrot, you can buy a 4lb bag for under $20! Do the math, and these only cost pennies per gram, or quite literally 1/10000 the cost of smuggled in medical ceeds.
Now medical ceeds are never going to be quite as cheap as bulk-grown hemp ceeds, but should the day come when these are truly legalized, and you can walk into a local garden store and buy them like tomato or pepper ceeds, the per-pack price will probably go down to only a few dollars.
