OK! so i read someplace that F1's are usually unstable. can not remember where i read that at. but i did, so its stuck in my head. then i read that F1 Hybrids are stable. so i am highly confused!! i am looking to purchase a strain that is being labeled as a F1 so im confused on why the price of the seeds are so damn high. 115 Euros/10 seeds. the strain looks gorgeous, and sounds hella delicious. says its great for beginners. im highly interested in this strain! i would love to add it to my collection. any heads up on the F1's? much appreciation, and +rep for informative answers.

What is an F1, F2, and IBL?

An IBL (inbred line) is a genetically homogeneous strain that grows uniformly from seed.

A hybrid is a strain made up of two genetically unlike parents, IBL or hybrid.

When you cross two different IBL strains for the FIRST time, it is called the F1 generation. When you cross two of the same F1 hybrid (inbreed), it is called the F2 generation.

The process of selective inbreeding must continue at least until the F4 to stabilize the recurrently selected traits. When you cross two specimens of an IBL variety, you get more of the same, because an IBL is homozygous, or true breeding for particular traits.

that clears it up for me. the strain i am after that i am questioning is the Detroit Diesel from Irie Seeds. looks fucking gorgeous!! but they have it listed as a Sour Diesel clone x Sour Diesel IBL. so an IBL cross would make it more stable and just better?

F1s are not stable, but they are the generation that shows hybrid vigor (offspring outperforming both parents). You get roughly 25% of the F1 generation being better than either parent, about 50% being the same and 25% underperform. You take the resulting good 25% and start breeding those to make an IBL of the cross to make a stable strain.
What're you planning on growing?
