The waiting game sucks

The waiting game is finally over! Performed the final flush this A.M. Trics showing mostly cloudy with scattered lite amber nodes. (That sounds like a weather forecast.) I just last night sampled a bud from a week ago. I did two bowls and was wasted for for most of the night, so the finished product should be amazing. Tomorrow night they will be left for 48 hours of dark and then the big chop comes. Woot! They will be exactly 8 weeks into flowering on Saturday.

Can we get a photo of where you are at today? I am also interested in the strain.

The strain is AK 48. As for a pic, I can't take one right now. Maybe tomorrow I'll have a couple of pics.

Very nice, but they could have gone longer just by pistil color. You'll definitely enjoy your harvest, but going by what I can see in those pics, still a bit premature. Had you let the pistils change color and recede, and the buds fatten up, my guess is you would have gotten about 1/3 more in total mass and weight. I know it's hard to wait out the last week or two, made that mistake myself as I'm sure everyone here has, but I've learned, and now hopefully you have too, for the next round. All in all, very well done. Looks very nice and I'm sure it will be tasty and do the job. Just don't try to speed through the drying and curing process now, another part that requires lots of patience.

Not to sound like a dumbass, but what is up with the total darkness (48 or 72 hours) before the chop? Just curious, I have yet to hear about that technique.

Patience is not the issue. I have no doubt that your experience is probably correct, and I struggled on whether or not I should harvest now or wait until I came across this thread: https://www.rollitup.org/harvesting-curing/401972-new-high-times-suggests-harvesting.html and after also doing some research, I decided to do it now. Due to personal reasons, having them stink up the house, and having to hide it, it is becoming more problematic than I thought it would. Like I said, the trichs are mostly cloudy and there are a good amount of amber ones. I don't want to risk losing the type of high that I'm getting now, which is EXACTLY what I wanted.

The purpose of 48-72 hours of darkness is that it is supposed to increase trich production by eliminating the light which breaks down the THC. Each day when the lights come on the there is a partial loss of THC in the trichs and each night the plant produces what was lost plus a little more. By keeping it dark for an extended period of time, the plant uses all of its stored energy to make more THC without the resultant loss during the time the lights are on. This is supposed to give you potentially anywhere from a 2% to 30% increase in THC before you harvest depending upon the strain. Worth a shot to do it since it costs nothing and I'm going to harvest anyway.

OMG they are in the dark. I tremble and shutter at the thought of cutting them up in a couple of days.

I took a quick peek at them today and holy shit its not even 48 hours and they buds got WAY more frosty. Total time in dark should be about 50 hours. Tomorrow morning is chop.

At least two more weeks. Wait until most of the pistils recede into their calyx, and the calyx swells, then chop 'em down.

They were in darkness for about 55 hours, and I really didn't see that much of a difference. They were a little bit more frosty but not that much. My yield wet was 10 ounces. After 3 days of drying they are crispy enough on the outside to start in the mason jar. after removing the stems and 3 days of drying the yield ended up at 5 ounces. Oh, yeah, and they were definitely done. Another week would probably not have hurt, but they are fine the way they are.
