Both Dirty South start both that way you can hae a night time smoke and a daytime smoke. I dont know what your pref is but you cant go wrong with starting a few of each.

When Dave talks about pond slime,does he mean the soils from the bottom of a pond or skimming the top?

I believe he is using the bottom as top would mainly be algae.Think what he is scooping up is mainly fish waste which is high in nitrates and great for vegging plants.kinda what the aquaponic guys are doing.
