the lights are really a lot stronger than people think. yes, the lumens are diminished the farther away from the light u get, but even at 4 feet from the bulb the light intensity is enough to have a strong veg without any excess stretch. this is especially true of horilux and high output bulbs that are 115,000-120,000 lumens but with a smaller 600 watt light u will most definitely want to keep it closer.

So I can get a 1000w Hortilux MH Blue and a Lumatek 1000w Ballast and use a parabolic (sp) hood and cover a 7' x 7' area with plenty of light strightly for my veg room? And vegging for 60 days.
That completely changes using four reflectors to cover 8 x 8!!

Something blew my mind in episode 30, then I completely forgot about it till in the middle of watching 33. lol. The dude with the big ass house uses ONE 1000w light for his veg room and had a 7 ft footprint, could someone please go into a little more (or lot) depth on this please.
Also I know me and you both need much cooler coffee mugs, probably not exactly a huge market - but is there any way you might design one or have a contest or some shit. One with the weed nerd in the molecule on one side and the TGA Subcool logo on other side. That would be kick ass, you may already have ten ready to go, just wondering. I completely relate The Weed Nerd and wake n bake, then I have a Dank Day. lol. Bam, Have a Dank Day coffee mug!!! perfect.
- most people would use a 5x5 or 4x4 footprint to flower in. so why couldn't you use a 7x7 area to veg in? plenty of light to get the job done, especially with the parabolics. that veg room looks real good. all the petioles on the plants are healthy and green and there is very little purple from phosphorous lock it which means there is ample trace elements in the mix. i personally disagree with the 24 on. plants can only process up to 18 hours of light. of course they cant tell you they are tired and you can sleep with a light on to cant you? a plant needs to rest to metabolise.

I'm not arguing it, that sounds great. I have been using reflectors with a 4 foot footprint and would love to frame off a 7 foot room for veg and be done. That seems like a lot of fllor to cover and I would like to hear a little more before I go and buy the reflector and change my shit up. Sounds great and his plants looked happy. I honestly don't think there is that big of a difference between 18/6 and 24/0, but there sure as hell is a big difference in electricity between running 1000w and 4000w!

you can indeed! in a veg room a parabolic or a gull wing style hood covers vastly more room than a standard air cooled hood, i still use hoods as my veg room because the room is 6' wide which allows me a 5' footprint and 6" all the way around, but it could be more being as my light-line is ~1' higher on the wall than the canopy. that light is reflected off the walls to the shaded areas of the plant, where if i had an open layout it would make a footprint up to 7 feet.
i agree on the 24 hour on note. a few years back i watched a study on pea plants where they were under 24 hours of light for 3 weeks, after a week you could easily spot the leaves drooping and after 2-1/2 weeks they began to turn brown and die from the stress. my thought have always been that everything will need sleep, and this study confirmed my suspicion. granted they were pea, and not pot plants, but denying a dog sleep will have a similar effect as if you were to do it to yourself. i know many have run 24/0 with great success but to me it has always seemed to be denying them a crucial apsect of their lives. right now im pushing my limits at 20/4 lighting which will probably end up back to my comfort zone of 18/6
plus while running 4K flower and 2K veg, 18/6 can save some coin! and with comparable results, why not?

Thank you very much. +rep to both of you. I like the thought of taking 2k and making a 7x14 room. Then I have plenty of room to veg longer and if I have some extra room autoflowers are coming a long way and a few of them can just hang out.

Roots also grow during the dark period.....i know they must still grow if you have a 24/0 but the studies i've seen/heard about, root mass is gained during the dark/sleep period.

very much so, and more.. it was found that cellular division is at its height just before 'dawn' just as the photosynthetic rate is peaked just before noon. which is why outdoor growers should be looking for morning sun as opposed to afternoon.

Long time listener first time caller here...
Do you treat the plants you use for making seed differently than the plants your producing flowers? Do they use the same amount of supersoil? Do they take longer to mature?
Also, what do you do with all the seeded weed after you collect seeds? Do you give it away to smoke or make hash and tinctures out of it? I bet your seeded weed is danker than most peoples unseeded! Do you dry seeded weed different, do you cure it?
