There he is. I hope I can get them cut in three weeks but the tri's are cloudy and no brown yet so it might be longer. ill smoke you up when you get back in town :bigjoint::eyesmoke::sleep:

What is the word with your grow?
I usually harvest when they are ALL cloudy... or when the first red thrichs show up. I guess it depends on the strain and the grower!

MOTO! Your girls are looking good!! SO FAST!!!!!! I'm the girl w/ the hydro setup... I have a similar setup that you have, but seeing very different results. Can't seem to find the answers to these questions i have ANYWHERE.. can you help>>???

MY QUESTIONs:
1. What is the best way to water a 6 inch rockwool cube?
2. HOW MUCH water does it need at ONE watering (ie: an ounce, cup or gallon for each plant PER how many times a day?)
3. How much time in between should I wait, and how do I know if it is dry enough to water again? (the blocks are freakin heavy and seem so saturated).
4. How can I get the water to spread throughout the entire top part of the cube, instead of just flowing down near the stem, and directly draining out the bottom 1/2 of the cube? (right now I have NO spicket at the end of the water tube..it just flows out like a faucet into each cube.
5. Do you recommend covering the cube w/ plastic paper?
6. I have discovered i was given deficient nutes. My cubes are currently saturated, plants turned yellow. How should I got about doing the flush and switch to the new nutes?

I am SOOOOOOOOOOO Grateful for your recommendations as I have seen you are an excellent grower. Thanks a ton in advance and happy smoking ;)

totally! are you just loving the 400 watt HPS or what?

Ya I love the 400 watt HPS. I think after this grow its about time to get some new bulbs just to keep everything fresh and up to par.

I agree. I would harvest with all cloudy but i like the combination of both head high and body high so I usoually wait until about 30% brown then do my flush and it ends up at about 50/50 my fave  here is the chart that i have always used

BlueBerry, Thank you for your comment. Im Glad that I can help you out as RIU has done for me  Im going to answer the questions in the order you gave them hopefully it dose not get confusing. :eyesmoke:
1) On watering your rockwool cubes, I would pull your drip tube out of the cubes and burry them in the Hydroton right next to the cubes about half way down. I found this to work great because by this time there are a lot of roots in the bottom of your pots so there is no need to get the top of the cubes saturated.
2) Im not sure about how much water is needed during one watering, I always have my water running 24/7 and have had great success with this method. you will find that your cubes are staying a bit wet, but if you have a good airstone the roots will not drowned for being so wet. I like this method because i want the plant to use whatever nutrients it can whenever it can so i always have a fresh circulation of nutrients for the plants as well. If you keep your PPM's correct you will not have nute burn with the constant circulation.
3) If you are still thinking about just watering off and on I probably only do it 3-4 times a day, you can tweek this to whatever you want but just keep and eye on moisture levels i.e.(too wet=less feedings, too dry=do more feedings in the day).
4) Like i mentioned on answer one i would now dirrect the water on the lower part of your cubes. I also do not have a spout on the end of my tubes so they to jus run about 55 gallons an hour is flowing through my spouts  Dont worry if the tops are not getting wet you do not want the base of the stem to get rotted as i have seen in other grows.
5) Yes cover your rockwool with plastic. i just used the hydroton to cover up my cubes but if you are out of room then just cutting up trash bags will work great. you do not want any algae growing in your cubes or you might get some troubles down the road.
6) On switching out the nutes if you can, do it at the end of your day light cycle or during the lights out. I would run PH water (water that is at the correct PH) through everything for 15 min then drain and do it one more time for another 15 min. I too had troubles with my nutrients about half way through my grow (getting salt buildup on everything so i switched from my General hydroponics solution to BC series nutrients and this stuff is AWESOME I have BC grow, BC bloom, BC boost and that is it. Great stuff i highly reccomend it in your next grow. The GH nurients i dont like at all. you can see in my first page the salts builtup on my hydroton as evidence that GH is going to give people trouble. just my opinion.

your grow setup is looking great!!!!!!!!! +rep to ya. if you are still having troubles or have anymore questions feel free to ask i am more than happy to help you out---------------GROW ON:weed::weed:

Damn you rock! Thank so much. its really helping me sort this all out. My babes are looking healthy and just starting to show signs of beefing up after giving the NSR nutes!!!!!!! Tiny little new growth inside the nodes.

More EASY questions :::

1. Are your rockwool cubes just NEVER dryin out? Does the bottom 1/2 of the cube CONSTANTLY remain wet and how do the roots breath/dry?
(I'm so shocked and never heard of this method..it seems to work great 4 u!)

2. Are the clay pellets below and around/top of the cube, enough airation? Should I put plastic over the pellets too as extra help for algae?

3. My Cubes are 6 in, and I think you have yours in quite bigger pots. Will it make a huge difference what size my black pots are?

4. Now my BIG question is about NUTE BUILDUP. If you have the water going constantly 24/7, how do the nutes not get concentrated inside the cube? Or are you intending for it to do that? How often are you switching your 55 gallon tank out w/ new nutes? I have about 9 gallons in my tank.....think i'll have pretty significant nute buildup in the rockwool? I dont want to nute burn :)

Again THANK U. So grateful to have help with my medicine girlies.

Thank you blue!!! Im glad that your plants are coming around.

1) Yes my rockwool cubes never dry out. The roots are still breathing because there is a constant supply of oxygen rich water that is flowing to the roots. Also the main root ball has grown passed the rockwool and into the hydroton that has a lot of voids and is very airy where the roots will get more air. I kinda came up with the method because my first grow was a bubbleponic setup with a constant flow so I thought it really dosent make a difference with the right media in your pots. Its made my buds supper dense and not airy like some of my friends that only feed 3 times a day. totally trial and error and it has worked out well

2) if you have the hydroton on top of the rockwool to cover them up that works great (thats what i did) and you shouldnt have any problems, just make sure that your feed tube is pushed in about half way so that the top layer dose not get wet and there will be not algae in your pots.

3) you will be ok with your pots, however you will get a bunch of roots growing on the outside of your pots, i have tons of roots growing in my drip tray so even my pots were not big enough. what i did was made an extra feed line spraying the roots to make sure they do not dry up. If you dont want that you can buy bigger pots and burry the smaller pots inside the bigger pots with hydroton but do not remove your plants from their pots or you risk a bunch of roots breaking.

4) with my feed tube on the side of my pots there should not be any build up in nutrients since the water is constantly flowing the nutrients really have no place to rest. they just keep circulating however i have always used 2/3 strength nutrients from what is recommended just in case, and with the majority of your roots growing outside the cubes you shouldnt have any trouble. just keep an eye out for burn spots in the leaves. I have about 15 gallons of water in my res and i change it out about every week and a half. they say you can go longer but i always want fresh water in my res. now that im flowering the plants are using up more of the nutrients so to make sure that i have the right amount in my res i change it out every week just to be safe.

Hopefully this helps:bigjoint:

Here is another update on the grow. I just raised my PPM to about 1400-1500 to push as much THC as I can. The crystals have blown up and are everywhere. there is still about 3 weeks left maybe more in the grow, but keeping an eye on the ratio of brown to cloudy tri's. Im getting a little burning on the leaves due to the increase in PPM but that is ok at this stage in the grow I want everything to go to the buds. My water changes are also more frequent about once a week with new nutrients and fresh PH water. Im going to have to tie up some of these buds because the branches cant hold the weight anymore. here are some pics......ENJOY

I am learning so much from you. I really thank you for spending so much time with me. Wish I could pass this bong to ya!!!!! bongsmilie
uh..i'm taking some sighs of relief to know my setup is almost the same as yours!!! I have the balls on the bottom as well, and may just get new pots (hmmm., i may not have room on my table for bigger).

So, if I get this right, are your roots just flowing out of the rockwool, into the hydroton, and resting on the bottom of the pot? How many inches of Hydroton do u have below? Perhaps I should just put more than 1 inch of hydroton in the bottom to make more airy.

I think this constant flow method would work for me once I know the roots have reached passed the cubes. until then I'll try watering 1x/day for like 10 min. You think they'd dry up to much at this point?

My current humidity is 50, temp 70-78. I think its a pretty ideal enviro for them. The only thing I see is the TINY brown tips, even on new growth. I don't think they are too hot. Have u seen this with your plants?
~Blubes~
p.s. oh i see u are done in like 3 weeks. please let me know how big those buds are so i can drool

nice grow freind, are you steadely uping you nutes every time you are changing you water m8?
Thanks Howard, Yes my nutes go up slowly with every water change. Ive got mine a little too high right now so im going to bring it back to 1200PPM. Thats the nice thing about hydro is you can tell if your nutes are too high for too low real fast by the leaves.

Yes, There is only like 1 inch of hydroton under my rockwool, and the roots grew rapidly outside the pots. here is a picture so that you can both see how much water is flowing and the quantity of roots growing outside my pots. ( you can still see a bit of algae on the roots from when I had an outbreak on my drip table those trash-bags brought the algae down by 80%.)

you shouldnt have any drying up roots, but i would at least feed 3 times a day. And the dying tips on your leaves I have had in the past and it turned out to be Calcium deficiency here is the guid that really helped me out http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=11688

Whatsup Moto do you cutt them roots when they start getting close to the resevore.
Hey Funk, I have just wrapped them around that corner to get them growing the other way. I have to do it about every 3 weeks with all the new growth but have not cut them for fear of stunting the plant. I could be wrong and haven't really read much on long roots> I can totally say that there are roots everywhere in my drip tray for only 2 plants. I think my next grow im going to do something different to keep the roots more isolated. I might just grow in separate buckets kinda like this setup in the picture with my own tweaks. I can totally say that there is some downsides with growing in the drip tray. The bad things are roots grow everywhere, Algae grows unless you cover everything up (which i later found out), and water evaporates a lot more so im adding water more frequently and its tough to keep the humidity lower for flowering with all of that evaporation.

Before I bought my EBB&Flow systems I was going to make one of those. I saved all my cat litter plastic containers to do it with. They are almost exactly the same as what is used for the system. Now I think I am going to use them in the back yard for tomato plants this summer since I have 16 of them.
