Theater Education Major

Just finished my first semester towards getting my AA in Theater Arts. After that, going to get my teaching credentials and transfer to a University. Here is my question to those who have a Student Loan from a University; how much on average per month is the loan payment? My goal, being a High School Theater Teacher, pays around 54,000 per year. I want to know my checks and balances with a student loan payment, a house payment, and what is left over for daily needs. I am thinking of going to USC. A house payment now a days goes for around 1,200 per month. Thanks.

Student loan for theater education? Sounds like a lot of debt that will never get paid off.

I guess the question is - is there a demand for these teachers? I know someone here who's trained as an art teacher. More candidates than positions. cn

Im willing to live with the debt if it means being able to control the debt and pay off what I need to have a house and a stable career. Im willing to even travel to a location to where a position is available.

Um no. Many schools are getting rid of liberal arts programs and general interest for theater has been steadily declining since the turn of the twentieth century in favor of movies or more visual entertainment like the cirque du soleil.

Figured it out. Average student loan debt as of Nov 2011 is 25,000 for a 4 year college. I calculated to pay that off in 4 years it will be around 600 dollars a month. With the average mortgage payment being around 1,200 plus the 600 dollars a month that will be around 1800 dollars per month in debt. Calculated the yearly income of a Theater Teacher and its roughly around 4,500 a month. That leaves me with 2,700 a month. The numbers add up. If i saved up 2000 dollars a month for 5 years I could buy a house in Amsterdam and vacation there for summer and winter.

Everyone and anyone can afford to go to college. The debt fear is all a myth. Its an illusion. The debt for a degree to push for a career is the same debt you would have if you owned a car. Get a degree. Be part of the club. Do it. Do what it takes to be part of the club.
