Squeezing the rockwool cubes is ill advised. You basically crush, damage, and break the roots apart. Sure, some grow back, but the dead ones rot and then it wipes the plant.
When the cube feels light, water it. If it still feels like it has moisture in it, let it sit a while longer.
Instead of your current plan, try this. Veg them till you are ready to flower them. Ignore the mothers. Flower them. At week 2, take two clones off of each plant in flower, and label them. Then, when you are done harvesting your plants around week 8, you will know which plants make the best bud and you can make two mothers out of that plant which is now 6 weeks old and ready to take clones from.
Keep the CFL's for seedlings/clones. MH (blue) for veg. HPS (red) for flower.
