I thought I would start a thread about things people had to learn the hard way in their first years of growing, lessons that you might not find in a book or online. Target audience for this is the layman, your every day joe grower. I am going to start off with what I think is one of the most important lessons I learned from my experiences in my first year of growing and will return with the other lessons I learned at a later date.

1)On Genetics and growing from seed - Growing from seed no matter where you obtain your seeds is nearly 100% of the time a roll of dice, to what degree you are rolling the dice can variate but always remember when growing from seed you roll the dice..take your best from seed plants and clone them them over and over, minimize the time, space, and resources used flowering plants that are from seed and fully testing them before you start cloning it, remember the best phenotypes are few and far in between so please keep this in mind when growing from seed many plants simply do not deliver in desired traits. Another thing, if your growing from seed dont be afraid of making your own seeds its not at all difficult.

The importance of weekly flushing to prevent nutrient lockout....learned that one the hard way
With carefull monitoring a weekly flush is not necessary. I monitor strength of nutes IN vs Strength of Nutes OUT.

One thing i would tell people about is for the NOOB buying COCO and thinking its like soil. YOU FEED EVERYTIME WITH COCO. This was a mistake that i made choosing COCO in the beginning and not knowing that you feed everytime. I went water water feed. Needless to say i suffered a massive loss in yield and a very yellow plant with barely any leaves left at the end of flowering.

i definatly wouldent suggest weekly flushing you are using way too much nutes if you are havin to flush once a week u are just wasting resoruces imo ease back on the nutes, things i learned the hard way, nutes nd burning my plants and paying attention to when they are happyt and healthy. Definatly to get your temps under control its easier to just figure out your exhaust nd what you need then to wait on your plants to recover from heat stress.

i must know about coco dangers as well...
there are NO dangers as long as you remember a few key points.

1. ALWAYS FEED
2. PH EVERYTHING BETWEEN 5.8-6.2 that goes in.
3. ALWAYS ACHIEVE 20% RUNOFF
4. USE COCO SPECIFIC NUTES they contain extra Cal/Mag for use in coco

these few key points will help.

i also suggest digital pH and EC meters to monitor runoff.

the importance of ph. invest in the best ph testing gear you can afford, and test everything soil, water, runoff. test regularly.

PH up/down would be a good investment? I'm gonna sow 4 Autoflowers in soil, what kinda soil and nutes would be best. I'm guessing that H20 evaporates more frequently out of a solution. So adding just H20 until completely replacing the resevoir seems like the path I'll take. I would like yield like around 3-4 oz from them. How much light would yall suggest. I'm thinking T8, T5 and CFL during veg and T8 T5 and L.E.D. during flower.

run 18/6 light cycle from seed for auto's , led's are a scam , get at least a 600w hps cooltube or dont even bother and ph up/ down is essential to any grow

My first crop I totally overwatered. I was lucky that my plants made it, and luckily I had that barneys farm lsd strain which just loved stress. Although the high isn't what I look for in weed, it certainly grew well given my newbie abuse of the plants through ignorance.

I'd say the biggest things I learned my first extended grow were......Use a timer!!!!!! Winging it screws with mother nature. Secondly, write everything down as to day and nutes etc. My first was a huge everything go wrong learning curve. Good news is my next grow will almost lots less expensive and I got all the weird shit out of the way. I got the stress and hermie out of the way early. I'd say just about every mistake you can make, I did. Being an avid reader I usually reacted quick enough as I'd figure out what was happening. After everything I put her through she's going to give me about a half ounce of great smelling frosty bud under 170w of CFL.
