Things To Do With The Extra Bits...

so, the grow is good, you get all the smokable buds curing and drying and whatnots. You're left with stems and seeds and fan leaves and all kinds of extra bits. I'd like to be able to use all the parts of the plant for something.

In my research I've come across hash, honey oil, and butter.
Though I'm not particularly clear on what parts of the plants are being used for those.

So, how could I use all the parts of the plant? Are there any other fun things I could do with the miscellany? What are some good methods for doing said fun thing?

and could someone clearly explain what parts of the plant needs to be used to make the hash, honey oil, and butter?

Your best bet is to make BHO. ISO hash is fine but I find you get a lot more plant material (chlorophyll) with ISO.

Get a PVC pipe that is 1 inch in diamter. Place a cap on each on of it. The end where you will insert the butane nozzle (top), you want to drill out a small hole large enough to securely fit the butane nozzle into. On the other end (bottom) where the liquid butane will come out, you want to drill another hole roughly the same size. Inbetween this bottom hole and the pvc tubing itself just insert a coffee filter.

Now just load the tube up with any scraps you have and you will end up with a nice pure form of hash.

awesome. and I can do this with all the extra parts of the plant that aren't for smoking? I want to use 100% of the plant for making awesome stuff.

To each his own, but that device is a waste of money IMHO. None of the plastic from the PVC bleeds off into the hash/BHO solution. The only advantage is that it's more durable, but PVC is very durable on it's own. You wouldn't be able to break a PVC version of a BHO-hash maker unless you hit it with a sledge hammer.

If you like it because it's bigger, that a reason I guess. PVC can be cut to any length, you just have to make sure you have enough Butane to run it through.

Just as a forewarning, some people may tell you that Butane is carcinogenic and therefore harmful to make hash with. In reality the Butane completely evaporates 100% within a couple minutes.

the butane you use will cost more than the oil you'll make from stems and fan leaves, it's best to make canna butter out of that.

Butane itself will evaporate, but additives won't and can be carcinogenic. and not all PVC is butane resistant. Plus, PVC contains chlorine so if it ever burns, inhaling the fumes could be deadly. Also, duct taped PVC looks like amateur hour.

I plan on doing that as well. and I'll make some ice water brick hash. just to be well versed in the process for all of them.

I just realized, how do you smoke honey oil?
The most efficient way it to put it in a small pan or tray of some sort, then seal the tray with a whip. That way you can make sure you use every last drop of it.

A pipe that resembles a crack pipe also works very well and is less of a hassle that buying a whip, and finding a tray that is small or the same size as the whip.

if 1+ grams of oil is worth less than the $5 - $10 can of butane, yes.

I agree there is more cost efficient ways to make hash than using BHO, but I've seen good yields from less than a single can of BHO.

best thing to do, imo, is make dry sift hash with it...also known as kief. its very cheap to make a screener box or hash tumbler...my tumbler cost me about $25 to build and about 2 hours. i threw it together real quick cuz i didnt know if i'd like the dry sift but now that i love it im gona make a little nicer tumbler.

you'll want to use ANY part of the plant that has crystals (trichomes) on it....sugar leaves, fan leaves, stems, popcorn buds, etc.

I make oil out of trim. last batch I got 1.3 grams using 13.5 oz of butane (totaling around $6) and 2oz of mostly leaves and stems (cut up male). I usually get a little more from bud trim. That's worth it to me...

like this? http://www.grasscity.com/glass-pipe-8.html?p=2

off fan leafs and stems your not going to get that much.
I'll be using every part of the plant that isn't a smokable bud. I'm going to make a little of everything as I don't really care about cost. Variety is the spice of life.

is this better than ice water? cuz we've already ordered the washer.

if I get males, I'm going to burn them before they can pollinate so I don't expect I'll be getting a lot out of them.

Hopefully you're left with fan leaves and stems, but no seeds.

You could also make CannaOil...same as cannbutter, but in oil instead. In hash, hash oil, butter/oil you can use buds and any frosty/resin-coated leaves.

As far as using all parts of the plant...outside the stem, what are you not using?

You can make hemp...somehow, but I have no clue how. You can use seeds to make flour if you really want. These are all things that no one really does around here, though.

I would advice against PVC in your BHO extraction. PVC has bad chemicals that can be released when forcing high-pressured butane through the tube. Get a metal pipe for it, there is a tutorial around here somewhere on it.
