Okay so I remembering reading somewhere a long time ago that alot of people swear by hortilux bulbs and would never use anything else. I have never used anything but and will swear by em too.
However, something I just read, in the latest High Times Master Growers Guide in an article about the latest lighting, that there are new bulbs designed specifically for digital ballasts, and how the all previously manufactured models (which Eye Hortilux falls into this category)ARE NOT designed for digital ballast and burn out early and what not. They proceded to hype SunPulse as innovators in the field w/ the first bulbs designed for the higher frequency of digital ballasts or something like that. I think thats also why like nexgen and lumatek are selling their own bulbs now but hey idk
Until a more definite answer is reached I will continue to put my faith in the wonderful spectrum Eye provides me
also by the way:
plantlightinghydroponics.com has the knockout prices on Eye Hortilux...always down to save a buck
They stopped selling Hortilux because Hortilux didnt like how low their pricing was ... wtf ?

Well I didnt used to think bulb brand mattered .....untill now ! I have used lots of brands over quite a few years thinking a bulb was a bulb, as many of you most likely do. Well I was dead wrong. I am quite sure that some brands might be just as good but honestly I am done trying to save a buck and just going with Hortilux from now on. I will let the pictures do the talking.

First we have Ice comparison at almost 6 weeks
:o

Ice again, take a guess which two were under the Ultrasun..

Finally we have Agent Orange that has finished at 8 1/2 weeks.

And in case you have any doubts about the setup, all these plants are on the same 4X8 tray. Taken from comarable places on tray as well. They are3 in SOG @ 4 per SQ foot. Plants are switched SMALL at around 7-8 inches. If I didnt know better and have the comparison I would have thought the small ones were just fine considering the size they are switched at. . One side has a brand new Ultra Sun the other an 2 year old Hortilux . Yes Two years old....All comparisons are the same strain from the same mom switched at the same size. Same results on other trays as well. Some strains it is more pronounced then others. I bought several brand new Ultra suns to replace my older Hortiluxes since I read so much about how the bulbs performance dimishes over time.... Think I got these for around $40 each online. I found a 6 pack of 1000 K Hortilux for $400 shipped so only around $66 shipped each. Needless to say I bought all new Hortilux after I saw this with my own eyes. Judge for yourself.

Peace

thank you so much for this info... glad my bulbs are hortilux... not that i was losing sleep over it... but glad to know my strict policy of " do everythjing as right as you can afford... and then go a step further anyway" is going to pay off!

They really do degrade substantially after a year or two. I run 2 600's side by side & once replaced one bulb & the difference was very noticeable.
I quickly ordered another.

Once again, Lively puts another argument to rest with solid testing and great pics. Cheers, my man.
Why thank you =) I was very surprised myself honestly. I didnt think it would be so clear. What ws really surprising was the Hortilux bulbs were also quite old. Pisses me off really. I have a pile of these new bulbs and cant even use them.... Just glad I figured out what was going on and didnt waste too much time chasing my tale.

Could not have ran across this thread at a better time, as im about to be upgrading my old, cheap startup grow bulbs. I had already been eyeing the Hortilux's anyways (i try to do my research first, so im well versed on usable spectrums) but its very nice to see a picture comparison! Nice post and a +R4U ;D

Those results made me do some research on the bulb that came with my 400w Magnetic Hps. The bulb I have now is a GE 400W Lucalox X-tra Output and after doing a quick search I found this site: http://www.bulbtronics.com/Search-The-Warehouse/ProductDetail.aspx?sid=0063382&pid=GELU400XOT40+++

According to this site my bulb puts out an initial 56,500 lumens at 2100K. The EYE Hortilux bulbs that I have found on ebay state that their bulbs have an initial lumen output of 54,000 lumens at the same 2100K, so I'm wondering does this mean that my bulb is comparable to a Hortilux bulb, if not better? There could be another factor that I'm missing but if anybody uses my bulb or knows more about this let me know what you think.

I've read in this post multiple times that "you get what you pay for", which i believe. Does this mean the Hortilux Super Blue enhanced bulbs are twice as good because they cost more than twice as much? Their light spectrum is amazing, i'm wondering is it would be better to flower with a Super Blue MH rather than the Super HPS i've been running...

Do you guys in the USA ever use the Sun Master Dual Spectrum bulbs? By looking on the hortilux site, I can see they have an HPS at 30,500 lumens, but my SunMaster dual spectrum bulb throws out 33,000 lumens...

I was wondering mainly because I had to check out the bulbs, those comparison pics were really cool and seriously outlined the difference between a bulb and a "serious bulb,".

Nice post man.
