Thinking about diy nutrients

Hummm well this thread got a little over complicated quickly :s I do mostly Organics and apple cider vinegar works wonders to bring down ph....as for measuring...get a ph kit and or meter you never know what your dealing with even the unreliable results from the source can change by the time it gets to you through your pipes that may have calcium build up or extra metals from a water heater
Or use distilled water. This is kinda random.

Lemon in small amounts is a good organic ph down.

Lol...my plants say other wise u do have to be careful otherwise you bring your ph down too far causing lock out again! Sorry I should have clarified my first post...you absolutely should be worried your high ph as this is causing your lock out...only way to solve that is by adding something to bring it down and something to accurately measure where it's at or like I said you will be locked out again or maybe even kill your roots

One of the most common lock problems is iron after about 7.3 I believe is complete lock out and with this it can show signs of many other deficiencies, the only iron I know that works after that point is eddha...100% availability up to 10ph

He never said there was a problem with pH. He said he was feeding with lucas formula, which implies 5.8pH. It's just that he's using "micro" for hard water, which means it has less calcium.

The way to lower pH in a hydroponic formula (like lucas) is either with nitric, phosphoric, or sulfuric acid, depending on whether you need more N, P, or S.

I will admit i don't know hydro that well but I just can't see adding nutrients and changing the balances of npk ratios just to satisfy the ph lvl to be easy or wise? Especially since he doesn't even know his waters
Ph to begin with? Or did I completely miss read that he was using untested water with a hard water formula, and still receiving nutrient lock out?

Lemon is bad period very effective at killing microbes...but I don't see what's wrong with apple cider vinegar in hydro or citric acid
Not sure I really dont have to check my ph unless i start seeing an issue but i switched to supersoil for my current grow.
With hydro of course you want to monitor a lot more. But even when I grew DWC I rarely had to adjust my PH because i used distilled water. Ive also used the same brand of nutrients for more then five years so i know what to expect.
Ive used lemon to adjust the PH of my tapwater my lastgrow before I harvested but that was a soil grow using Hydro nutes. I didnt have any issues.

So hard for me to get out of the protect microbe train of thought but
If want a sterile water source it would be perfect! Do you use h2o2 in your res? Just curious...like I said I have never done hydro...

I used distilled ro water. I had a couple of those huge five gallon bottles it was 75 cents i think or a dollar twenty five to fill each one. changed each bucket every two weeks sometimes early on in veg i would let them go three weeks before i changed and i would just run two or three dwc five gallon buckets each individual non recirculating. I found it better to have individual reservoirs just because I ran a couple different strains so some of them were heavier feeders. Also if i had a ph or nute problem it only affects the one plant. And not your entire RDWC.
I guess there's something to be said about the simplicity of one huge rez but i just didnt need it with three buckets.
and i learned a lot of bad ass training techniques on here too for increased yields. Dif rez allow you to do side by sides with different nutes too. If you want to try samples and stuff.

I have been using guanos, chicken manures and a fish hydroslate this time around and i do the same thing 3 different buckets, except have them all aerated and I don't use them until they bubble for at least 48 hours and have a nice froth on top!

I thought you were talking about my DWC all hydroponics have to be bubbled or airated as you said or the roots dont get oxygen and the plants dont grow .
My supersoil i use AACT. With earthworm castings, kelp, some different guanos and mollases. Ive been using Boogie Brew on my lemon kush all bubbled.

Nice. I love michigan especially the girls in ann arbor! Thats the first place i visited on a greyhound. From miami to detroit about ten years ago. Longest bus ride ever. I remember getting some fire up there. Like some kind of B.C. bud hybrid.
Lake st. Clair was bad ass too.
