Thinking of rebuilding whats not broken

I have been growing indoors for some time now and had some good success and some spectacular fails. I grow in soil and want to stay that way. My grow consist of a metal cabinet stuffed in a closet. It is powered by a 400 watt HPS. The bulb is in a vented hood with a 6" inline fan pulling my heat to another room. I currently have another veg cabinet where I veg for 2-3 weeks then switch to its final pot and then another 2 weeks veg before into the flower box. I use humbolt ginormous and oneness in veg and flower.

Anyway with all that put aside I am posting this thread to get reviews on the grow technic used and mostly for thoughts on changing the grow room. I want to have more room for my grow so I was goin to use the whole closet instead of a cabinet in a closet. The cabinet now measures at 3wx2dx6h. The coset itself measures 4wx4dx7h. I was conserned that the 400 HPS will not be enough for the room size. ANy thoughts? I currently flower 5-6 plants at a time with great results. I was hopeing to up my yields with more space for each plant by growing the plants wider and possibly more plants in the closet. I dont have enough room for more or bigger plants in the cabinet insert. From the little research I have done people say you want 100 watt per plant so would it be best to upgrade to a 600? Please feel free to give any advice or knowledge on this subject

Yep your are on track! I actually did kind of the opposite of you....I was growing in a 2x4x8 closet using a 400 watt HPS (4" inline fan ducted to attic). That light cover roughly a 3x3 area and penetrates 3' deep. I decided to change it up and downsize a little....I wanted something that could be broke down and movable in case I am no longer able to use the spare bedroom. I went with a 2x3x5 tent and have it in that closet. I decided to go LED and not worry about heat. Went with area 51 that covers my area perfect. So saying all that yes 600 is perfect for that area! Or if you wanted to get a couple LED panels and save energy and not deal with heat that is an option but the upfront cost will be much higher.

That would be cool if you got some bread to upgrade. What about a 9 plant perpetual in the whole closet? You can veg them out as tall as need be in your other space and harvest a plant a week.. You would want a 1,000 or 600 watt for that tho.

Bro those bulbs are beast. How much power do they use are they 200 watt equivalent or 200 watt power use?

Cold you explain to me what a perpetual grow is? or a link to a thread that does ?

Surfhead. Im all about using more lights instead of upgrading to a 600 would i get any benefit out of a blue or purple led. Something the length of a t-5 or so? or should i jst keep it 6500 and 2700 mixed cfls?
