Im currently 3 seeds outside. They have been growing for 1 week and 3 days and things look great.

When it starts getting cold in September will the buds start flowering or will the plant die?

For example Lets say I planted a seed in early august. Where i live (Virginia) it starts getting cold in early September. So will change in weather speed up the flowering process, thus producing a smaller yield....or will the plant just DIE!

Thanks for your help

yah, plants don't start flowering by the temps outside or indoors for that matter, but rather by the amount of darkness in the day that they get unless they are auto flowering, which are completely different beasts..
but lets just talk about normal photoperiod plants, which i'd think is what you're growing atm... once the amount of hours of darkness reach a certain amount outdoors, you're plants will get the signal that the longer days of summer are ending and that fall is coming fast and trigger their flowering response.. it's not exactly sure how many hours of darkness each different variety of cannabis needs outdoors in order to start to flower, which is why indoors we general change the time to 12/ 12 lights on / lights off.. this is a tried and true method with enough hours of darkness in order to trigger floewring even if it's not precise..
like someone else has already said, once the days start to get shorter in early to mid august, your plants will start to receive the amount of darkness required and start to flower on their own.. some breeders will tell you when a plant will be down outdoors, which is just a questimate at best, but lets say if in your area your plant will finish oct 15 outdoors, and the plant takes 10 weeks to finish flowering.. if you subtract the 10 weeks that it takes to finish flowering from the finish time of oct 1st in our ex, you'll come up with a pretty good idea of when our ex plant will start to flower outdoors..
i hope this helps you understand a lil better, and g/l with the rest of your grow m8..
