This is what I'm looking at for my budding HPS. Any suggestions?

Quantum 600w ballast is $138 shipped. Got 5 of them, awesome ballasts. That's also hella expensive for a hood thats not even air cooled. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Virtual-Sun-VSGC6000-6-Grow-Light-Lamp-Enclosed-Reflector-Hood-1000W-600W-400W-/200704442804?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebaeac1b4 $90 for a hood. That just saved you enough to buy the quantum ballast. Then later when you want to expand you can air cool multiple hoods and not have to replace anything.

i also think it's wierd you'd spend $70 on a bulb that'll last a couple months instead of $35 which will last just as long, but try to cut corners on the stuff that will last years, except without even saving money.

thats wise advise......... Quantums ballats are very nice and you would be better off listening to mike....... Dont buy junk ballast and a nice bulb buy nice ballast and junk bulb..haha

or how about a nice ballast and nice bulb? haha but the thing that was cool about the adjustawing was that u can actually add a second bulb to it if u want. not worth it?

I was just assuming that your choices were made based on a tight budget, so if $40 is a big deal, save it on the bulb not anything else. Also, not worth being able to add two bulbs to a wing. You'll definitely need to air cool 2x600w and those wings are garbage for heat dissipation.

Ya i wouldnt spend any money on that ballast or bat wing......heck they sale regulare batwings with the socket at my local hydro store for 30 bucks

They also sell sheets of aluminum at home depot for $3, and sockets for $8 online. I'm in the wrong business I guess.

people ask questions on here for help and answers, u can stop after that. being a dick is not what this site is about. im literally on my first grow but ill bet its better than your first grow. sarcasm is not appreciated.

Bud that comment wasn't even directed at you, so good job trying to start shit over literally nothing. Check out my first grow if you want, the results are in my signature. You're the one hating on my garden for stating that you can build something for $11 instead of buy it for $120, sorry for offering a way to save money. I've done it myself and know it works. It's not my fault if that fact is somehow offensive to you.

He is trying to help you man.. then you attack him.. comon man. But mike, I have a question for you, are those ballasts you bought silent? The hydrofarm phantom is totally silent, tested it for RF too.. I love this ballast.
