Thought I did everything right

I harvested a few branches off my ladies to sample the buds well they were very dense. All of them. I dried then at 65 degrees and @ 60% RH. This was for 8 days I then stuck them in jars. Which showed a RH of 68% after being in there a week after it was dry. I was burping them daily. I smoked some it seemed fairly dry. Well that shit tastes horrible... Looks and smells great. But why is it smoking bad? Could it be because their is still a lot of moisture in these dense buds? Thanks for any replies

You jarred it to early, they need to dry. Take them Out of the jar Dry them so they don't mold.. taste and smell might not be fixable.

Because it hasn't been in the jar long enough perhaps? You said you cut them early also.

Most curing takes weeks if not months. One week of curing doesn't do it. I've got some "shitty" bud which is just very airy buds, not dense at all and I've been curing for about 3 weeks now. Starting to smell ok but definitely not a mature plant,( long story to anyone who replies to this but if you saw the plant from start to finish you'd be puzzled too haha!) anyways you have got at least 5 more weeks. Keep on curing.

What did you grow? What did you put in? lots of variables, and kinda hard to presume if your problem comes from before or after harvesting

But assuming it's all drying n curing related all I can say is I personally don't just burp my jars, I let them breathe a good 15 minutes every 6 hours give or take (and I generally grow fluffier indicas, so if you have dense buds ...) and I do half-full at most. I turn the jars on the side (unlinked the buds), give a quick blow and let them sit. And even then I don't expect to smoke fully cured buds until almost a month later.

If I have a point, it's be patient, and don't just change the air in the jars but give the buds fresh air from time to time. Really only you can tell if bud density is a problem. Break em open and check if there's a noticeable difference inside and out.

I didn't cut early. I cut some branches @11 weeks of flower. Had around 10% amber or so. Also I am using Gh n/p/k. I also used RO water week 4 of their life's until now. I also used bud candy and florakleen. However with that said... I tested a sample this morning and I got the smooth smoke I was looking for! I believe it was just to wet. I let them air dry and smoked some this morning and it wasn't harsh at all... And Corso this was before our conversations I posted this :) my RH is now 47% in my drying room @68 degrees

Edit; This strain that was a little harsh was called red speedy chillie

So much debate on flushing. A little behind me. I've been a farm kid where we have grown agriculture our entire life. However. That in no means that I am an expert with cannabis. So why flush... The reason any person in agriculture flushes is to get rid of any build up of salts, or "chemicals" now, you can get chemicals in your bud if you just went way over board, and I'm talking about if your cannabis plant had a N toxicity the week before you cut your plant, well of course you will have N in your bud, bc your plant DOES store it there, if it is abundant of anymore space she can provide for that N to go. With that said. I saw no signs of my plants being over dosed with nutes. I did taper off the nutes the last two weeks, and the last week. I had about 7 gallons of half strength nutes, with florakleen, added. And then the last week I added just plain RO water with florakleen to flush out the salt build ups in my Rez. Which wasn't much. And I left all by the HUGE fan leaves on my ladies to dry. Thanks everyone for all the replies.

Flushing through the root system is hopeless. I do an after the chop harvest flush by allowing the plants to suck up RO water for like 24 hours...same as a flower in a vase. I find that each snip will average .5 litres of RO water during this final flush process.

The fact is I feel better in every way when the buds are drying with RO water in them than res water.

My table never stops so the plants get regular fertilizer right to the end.

Basically your nutes get used up so fast that during the drying process this gets done as well. Too wet for sure and getting a dehumidifier can work but best to do this in a room at a few hours and then turn the machine off, the constant drying of the room will ruin the drying process of the weed. Just allow the weed to raise the humidity of the room then take the moisture out again if you're living in a place that moisture is constant like myself. Rh levels hover around 75 to 85 where I live so I require such a machine.

I was planning on trying an after harvest chop flush with the flower in a vase for a couple hours to let her soak up some water to add a few more days to the dry, (usually 4 hoping for 7), has your experience with the end product differ? Seems like letting it soak a bit might preserve a ton of terpenoids, I'm also going to brown bag them a couple hours every day to slow this down

Honestly when I dried them slower (left them drying longer) then put them in jars. It seemed to be way WAY better. But that's just my experience. The buds I put in the jars sooner when they were still drying I suppose turned out not as good.

I wouldn't and haven't chopped for years without doing this flush. It guarantees a good taste every time if you finish the cure properly(without mold etc) I just stick the cut butts in the RO water and let them suck it up for about 24 hours.

I have found that the average budded 3-4' shoot will suck up about a half liter of water or so during this final 24 hour flush. I don't get the buds and stuff in the RO water.

Before I chop I clean them for a few days with the pump up sprayer using the RO water while they are still in the grow. Clean inside after the chop and out during the end of the grow :)

Like many have said, this is not usually/really necessary in a true organic grow, not using fertilizers but for fertilizer grows it is truly a must.

If you don't have a pump up sprayer you should get one. It makes a lot of things so much easier :)
