TL; DR
  • Mites Or thrips or cancer?
  • I have two 12 gal buckets (hempy double bucket style) on a self drip every 3 hours for 10-12mins per run
  • Reservoir is a 27gal
  • Medium is 80% perlite and 20% coco at the bottom
  • No webbing found on bud sites yet.
  • Seems only one plant is infected right now, though the other one could be now.
  • I see little black dots moving around the leaves
  • I have a very bad habit of not clearing sugar leaves until they are brown and crisp.. (fighting with depression and anxiety) so sometimes I cant deal with the plant.
  • I already sprayed dawn solution all over the plants. I tried to remove as much dead leaves last night but the thought of having the mites crawl on me and then get carried outside the room is hindering me from wanting to touch the plant more...
  • I wanna just burn it all to the ground :(
  • I'm going to spray natria today
  • Girlfriend won't let me buy lady bugs lol

Hey everyone! Please help!
Newbie here. Are these thrips or mites?
At first I thought thrips but further google searches I think i may have mites. No webbing yet, but I do see creepy crawlies.. at first I thought it was tiny dirt particles dancing from the fans BUT my dumbass walked out of the room realizing I grow in 100% perlite with some coco on the bottom..
So going back in the room, further inspection- these dirt particles are alive..

Anyways, at first I thought thrips so I sprayed the entire plant and the medium with a dawn solution [1 tablespoon to 1 gallon of water] I also put an 8th of food grade diluted 3% h202 in my spray bottle with the dawn. I put about 1.5 cups of diluted 3% in my reservoir of 15gallons as well.
After more research,
I'm thinking mites, I dont see any webbing yet which made me think thrips at first. But the body shape of these pest scream Mites.
I'm like 2 weeks from harvest, I'm in my 2week flush period.

This shit making me depressed because I'm not sure where tf I got them from. This is my 2nd grow over all. indoor tent.

The room itself is always at a cool 64-66 degrees because of the portable AC unit, so I think I'm okay with the room not being infested yet.

I'm going to spray the shit out of my plants with "Natria 706230A Insecticidal Soap Organic Miticide, 24 oz, Ready-to-Use" while the lights are off.

I'm going to make a habanero spray as well..

I just need to know what I'm dealing with here. How can I treat my yard? I'm pretty sure if it's in my grow room, they are all over the back and front yard.

Thank you for any advise.
I am unable to transport the plants outside to spray them with the hose because of my piss poor scrog skills :)

Looks like you have a serious THRIPS infestation.

the silvery scratches, the black fecal dots.

CONSERVE NATURALYTE

captain jacks dead bug

montaray garden insect spray.

All 3 of these contain Spinosad for control and eradication of thrips.

So not spider mites then? I sprayed the hell out of the canopy with the soap insecticide, which should kill the thrips? I was going to make a habanero mix in the AM.

Let me put it this way to you.

if there was a nuclear holocaust thrips would survive.

I told you what products to use.

no further information required.

insecticidal soap will make then laugh at you.

Spinosad. I had them once. I had to import SPINOSAD to the U.K I was glad I did.

Your camera is poor and I can’t see anything other than what looks like fecal deposits from thrips added to that you have the classic colouring scratches left behind by thrips.

If you’re camera was better I might be able to identify 100% but as it stands I don’t see any insects.

Neem oil. And a bit of dawn dish soap gets rid of the thrips. Spray when lights are off. Do that every 5-10 days. Spray entire plant and underside. You’ll be good.

Thank yous for the replies. Sorry about the pictures. I tried zooming in on a screenshot.

With the plants so far into flower, would spinosad or neem oil be dangerous? Or captain's dead bug for that matter?

If your in flower definately dont you neem. That stuff will throw your flavors off.

Look into Orius Insidius, or cucumeris, or swarskiis as beneficial insects to combat thrips for a on chemical solution.

Ok a bit of a stupid question, but what the hell is keeping you from just looking at the bottom of the leafs and finding a bug yourself? If they are too small to see mites, if you can see them thrips. I think you may find both. But for real, just look at the bottom of your leafs. If you have an iPhone click the side button 3 times to get into magnify mode and rip a leaf of and look at it real good. If you have an android phone....well sucks to be you.

You can also take a piece of white paper and put it under a leaf and tap the leaf a few times. Critters will fall off and are more easily identifiable on the white background.
