Thrips?

On week one of flower in organic living soil - Pretty sure I’m dealing with thrips… looking for confirmation.

I haven’t seen any other signs of thrips; no flying varieties found in the room or on sticky traps, have been scoping leaves regularly and have not seen larvae. I do see what look like spider mite eggs (small round and shiny) but they are smaller and far fewer, definitely no evidence of spider mites, thankfully (been there done that). Plants are otherwise happy and it’s been a smooth run so far, hoping to knock this out ASAP…

suggestions for treatment solutions from those with experience?

Get a photo of the underside of the plants and inspect them with a jewrlllers loupe use google to identify what you find underneath the leaves

When I had thrips you could literally see them on the underside without a scope only used the scope to actually identify what pest there was also the leave were tacoing pretty bad

thanks to you both for weighing in - really appreciate any/all perspectives. The white spots on the leaves have me scratching my head… to large with non defined edges to be spider mites…

my ipm includes a bi-weekly neem foliar, also throw in LABS as well every once in a while.

I think there definitely something taking foothold - with what I can only assume to be very low populations at this point

No obvious tell-tale signs of thrips other than my take on the leaf dmg.

I’d hate to have spider mites again…:wall:

I’m thinking maybe bomb the room with dr do?? Have half a can at home… figure I could get away with it given so early in flower

I would get a USB scope and do a really good search to confirm if there is really anything. I wouldn’t be spraying for something you can’t see.

I've never had mites so I can't comment on their difficulties but thrips are a real bstd.
If you smoke bomb them you won't catch the eggs and possibly miss some larvae, on advice given I smoke bombed them waited 3 days smoked them again, that was the last I seen them.

I do hate to do something like that - last resort… but really don’t want to spend 8+ weeks trying to fight something like spider mites in full flower - done it and it totally sucks lol
I also agree with you that I need to ID this shit, just have a basic grow loupe, I absolutely do need a better scope - plan to order today. Suggestions?

Imo it doesn't look like thrips damage to me. There's usually dark green and black spots on the leaves that are affected. Plus the white spots don't look like they are sucked dry of chlorophyll. Only my opinion though.

Yea my gut is starting to tell me I have an early outbreak of spider mites…. Think I’ll treat tonight by wiping individuals leaves with diluted isopropyl then hit em with rotations of citric acid, neem and insecticidal soap foliars

Yea I don’t go overboard with the neem foliar, but these girls have also had a foliar with aloe this run as well; I mix my neem oil with dr bronners soap to emulsify, so I think the residue of from both of those. I should probably give the girls a good water-only hose down before anything
