Thursday Night Chop Down!

please expain yourself gumball.. you talkin about choppin the cola before lower bud sites??ive seen this done before but the stress the plants recieves must be pretty harsh., id like to think so atleast?? but please further my knowledge homie
Yes, chopping the done sections of plant first and then leaving the rest to ripen a bit. It does not neccessarily have to be the main cola that gets chopped first. But the foxtails bring on new growth, and that new growth may not be ripe enough to be harvested. So if Stoney does a good job evaluating each cola, or bud site he should be able to chop what is most ripe and let the remaining ripen. Sometimes the remaining will grow more, sometimes only the "ripeness" will change (i.e. trichomes change more, hairs turn and/or recede). I have been reading a lot more people state to chop before amber trichs, and the first sign of amber should be the time to chop. Something about CBN being produced at the amber onward stages which can lead to anxiety.

I suppose it could be somewhat stressful to the plant. But the fact the plant is about to die may be stressing it too. Think of it like some fruit crops. They dont say 80% is done, harvest it all. They normally harvest the most ripe from the crop and then do a second pass some predetermined time later. Besides, unless you plan to reveg, the stress at this point is irrelevant.

hope this all made sense

hey, just wanted to chime in here and reiterate this point. very good info linked by bricktop on smelly's old thread is that as trichs become amber, THC degrades to CBN (bad), which causes drousiness and confusion. this is different than CBD (good), which causes couch-lock and is found in more indica strains. the overall point is that waiting for 30% or 50% or 70% amber isn't going to give you a better couch lock but rather a drousier high. it's best to chop at the first signs of amber -- that's when most trichs will be cloudy and THC % will be at the highest.

gumball, you are spot on with everything you said. in fact, the last time i grew this strain i did that exact thing, i carefully chose the buds to take and flowered the rest some more. It almost doubled my yield, and this one looks like i may have to do the same thing. it took a good 3-4 weeks more but it was worth it! and it only took a few days for them to start growing again. And yes, i like to harvest with all cloudy trics. i don't want the amber but i don't want any clear either. it's all about the happy medium of getting mostly cloudy. i started doing that a couple months ago and since i started my friends tell me whatever i am doing it's working because it's is more potent than thiers and we all grow the exact same DNA. I use CFL/LED and they use HID, so i'm not sure if it is my light or the trics but i'm sticking with it. but all in all i probably will be doing a partial harvest again..... i will make that determination on thursday night!

Bricktop and smokes like bob(haven't seen SLB in a long time... hope all is well) is where i learned about this. I am a common sense kind of guy and after reading more about this it just made sense to me and i believe it thouroghly. the head high to body high is purely in the genetics. why else would there be so many different strains.... not just for the taste. Amber trics is the degrading of trics. I don't like the word degrading. fo all those heavy amber growers out there, give this a try just once. I think they would be very happy in the end.

I have read people state their CFL grows had a better quality to their HID grows, so you may have your friends in a multitude of areas. Either way, the ways of the dank are stronger in you than in them

I couldnt agree more on the trich thing, same people I read it from too!!! now y'all have to read up on riddleme's fermentation chamber and make one of them, MAN!! and mine probably wasnt half as good as his on my first run, and my pickey ass wife said it tasted better then most any weed I brought home, and got her real messed up  and this was in 4 or 5 days!!!! They are pretty simple and there is a wealth about them on the net because small homegrown tobacco growers use them too :D

I am going to check that out.... i like a bunch of riddleme's techniques. i really like his "make it rain" method to feeding plants. anyone else interested in the fermentation that gumball is talking about you can find it here:

dam bro, the frost, just unreal, very nice man!!
Thanks CD, that pic turned out pretty good... took a few shots to get it in close enough.

He also included a lot of information through various runs in his Balls to the wall thread https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/347914-balls-wall-grow-riddleme-gets.html
you do have to sift through it a little, but it gives you some extra clues how it works.

Thanks for the link.... ya know that is one thing i like about riddleme, he doesn't just tell you how to do things, he tells you how to learn things.

Thanks for stopin by smelly!!! I wanna scrog going but i need to make them independant from each other kind of like that dude suggested in your thread.... i'm gonna keep my eyes open for something like that.... i'm sure it will be a custom DIY setup though. I have big plans for the spring time so maybe i will just wait it out till then. And it goes without saying.... rep for stoping in and posting!

you need to build a mini pergola for each plant, with the legs angled inward so the top can be wider than the base. you could use thread or wire for the top, or wood, or even small bungees

That is exactly what i was thinking. plus i love to use bungie cords!!!! I'm gonna make them rectangular so they fill the entire grow box equally. not sure when it will happen though..... I had to put that Kush plant back into the flower box. those fox tails started growing like crazy and almost all the buds have them now. the plant just doesn't look completely ready so i will wait till next week. I know it's shitty calling my thread thursday night chopdown and the first thursday there is no harvest..... oh well i fucked up! I know 8 or 9 weeks ago i didn't have a plant to put in the flower box and i think this is the week it comes back to bite me....... i guess i'll have to smoke some of this instead! I'll post a few bud porn shots in an hour or so.

thems the kind of mugs I like :hump: mighty fine sugar!

thats the beauty of your plan to individually scrog them, is you can widdle on one anytime, and when its done wait for a good candidate and go. probably wouldnt take you 2 or 3 hours sitting on the couch high to put one together, depending on how many smoke breaks you took :weed:

Ya know dude, you're absolutely correct. I have an entire garage stuffed with tools and parts to make it all happen. when i check on my girls soon i will take a tape measure with me to get some measurements. I'm thinking of makeing something that will encase the entire container/plant, maybe even hold the drip tray. no, scratch that the container will probably slide around in the drip tray that could damage the plant. I want something that i will be able to move around quite a bit. I'll brainstorm it a bit.... i'm thinking something like this....

that looks brilliant. good idea keeping that drip tray removed. dont want to risk breaking the plant with it.

great job stoney subed =rep im in to see bud porn nice pics also +rep
hammer, It's great to have you along for the trip.... do you happen to have a link to that reveg thread?
I have read a few but it's always nice to read another... bud porn is coming soon... i just need to vape up first then i'll post em!!

there is one more thing i'm worried about.... i was going to make it all out of metal... smaller, stronger. but i am afraid of the runoff water leaching out impurities in the metal and the plant getting sick or worse yet me getting sick! i'm now thinking maybe plastic..... strong, light, durable..... I'm better at working with plastics than metal or wood anyway.
