Timber Light Tips

Wasn’t sure where to list this so it’s in other threads sorry. So I’ve recently bought three of the 4VLs, love them so far did a bunch of research on here and other sites and decided to pull the trigger. So far they are working great however I am having trouble trying to dial them in as far as what is the right ‘light’ for each stage (veg to flower). I did talk with someone at timber about it (awesome people) and they said for veg about 25-50% power then full blast for flower or could buy a kill a watt. However, since they are on a dial it’s hard to judge without looking at the light (which hurts haha) what is 25 or 50% obviously full power is easy to judge. Basically I was wondering if the people that have timbers and how they judge light strength and maybe give me a few pointers? Thanks!

Use a par meter. Thats the best way to dial it in.

Awesome thanks! Any specific one you would recommend? What would be considered ‘half’ or 25-50% if I was looking at the par? Also I appreciate you reaching out you are like a god on here so I’ll do whatever you think is best. Lmao

If your poor like most of us a par meter is out of the budget. A lux meter will get you close enough for a hobby grower. Here is the one I picked up and am liking so far.

For the various stages you want your lux around these levels

Seedling/clone: 5,000-7,000 lux
Veg: 15,000-50,000 lux
Bloom: 45,000-65,000 lux


I recently jumped to the led band wagon and coming from the manufacturer I went with you want about 500ppfd for veg and 1000ppfd for bloom. Here’s a tool that converts lux into approximate ppfd I’ve found helpful.

I’d pick up a kill a watt meter for $20 it’s a nice tool to have around a grow room.

Or just turn the potentiometer half way from the maximum... It doesn't gotta be perfect my dude. You're over thinking it

You’re absolutely right. Haha. First time in awhile so I’m relearning everything and the dial kinda threw me off since it didn’t have a % on it. I’ll get the hang of it though just takes practice. Thanks!
