AzaMax is a slow acting systemic that will not eradicate an abundant population.

It looks as though a combination of throwing out anything that’s infested and treating lower populations with a varying amount of different products.

Beneficial nematodes - bacteria - root drenches - contact spraying - systemics - throwing out anything infested.

Not sure if the guys above realise that root aphids aka rice root aphids are a different type of aphid to those found on the plants themselves.

True but this person had already self identified as fungal gnats- a similar looking but much different/less harmful species. It is totally possible that the individual misidentified (looking at one under a loupe should solve that).... but really if they had root aphids out of control for this long their plants would look a whole lot worse!

(Masters in environmental science with my minor in botany....yes I know the difference lol)

I still favor bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis for the gnats (the bacteria that is the active ingredient in mosquito bits/mosquito dunks, etc.)

Interesting, I hadn't looked into that brand but it seems to just be Azadirachtin .... which is like a high potency neem oil extract.

That should be able to take them out... but I'm trying to avoid NEEM products during flowering myself.

Part of what makes Neem so effective is that the plant absorbs a portion into its tissues... I don't want anything absorbed during flowering. It is known to be safe on vegetables but there isn't much study on the effects of smoking it.

**Note: Azadirachtin can be toxic in sufficient concentrations. DEFINITELY never use it as a foliar spray during flowering. There is a reason people were thinking Neem was responsible for CHS (no actual evidence linking them).... Azadirachtin/Neem poisoning has some common symptoms.

"Organic" does not mean safe. As an example, Pyganic- one of the more common pesticides is a neurotoxin that can take out humans (chrysanthemum extract).

@Jash92 Just remember, the ones flying around really don't matter. It's the larvae that hurt the plants the most (they eat the roots)... so try to focus your efforts on the larvae in the soil. Hydrogen Peroxide or BTI as a soil drench will be your best bet.

Zoom in on this picture @SpawnOfVader and look at the body shape of the insects on the yellow trap.

If they are fungus gnats as he originally thought then the only stage of their life where they don’t have wings is in the larvae stage.

These pics are not fungus gnat larvae as FG larvae are clear worms with black heads.

Edit he could have misidentified FG as when populations of root aphids explode you can end up with winged root aphids too.

I’ve taken the hard work out for you.
These are on the yellow sticky traps he left near the soil.

he’s also agreed that his plants are showing symptoms similar to root aphid symptoms.

I definitely didn't try to zoom in this far.... besided BTI is an effective treatment to destroy the larvae form of BOTH fungal gnats and root aphids...my recommendation would have been the same.

I myself and one other friend have had bud that was heavily sprayed with neem that made us sick. Its classified as neem oil poisoning. Glad to see someone else out here trying avoid the shit.

I decided to toss the plants an start over, I have seedlings going in my other tent, will treat them with beneficial nematodes and everything I grow from here on out

I just saw this dude that grew hydro and had a root aphid investation, nasty things
i bleached sprayed my grow tent and will wait a month before growing again, this tent is in the garage my other one isin the house
