and buds grow great when shaded by fan leaves, as long as the light is from a quality source penetrating to the bud depth, so yeah I agree..lol

TL;DR: yes you can top. Replant soon.
You can top whenever. I've topped after the 2nd set if leaves showed. Took a few days for the branches to come up, but yea, top whenever. Also yes I would transplant soon. Your leaves are over the pot edges and I would guess there's a nice healthy root ball in there now.
I kept a plant in a 2 inch pot for about 12 weeks after germination. It'll grow slow and skinny. She only reached about 9 inches and pretty much stayed that way. Bottom leaves would die and some small new growth would come. I dont recommend it. Eventually i couldnt keep up with watering and most died. I gotta stop rambling lol

Thanks T Macc I transplanted them this morning and will give another week then I’ll top them. Cheers. They did have a nice root ball but weren’t root bound which was good. I gather they should like the new growth space and take off now I hope. I added half strength Seasol and watered through well to help

I've never grown outside in UK.... the indoor grow is just fine, and another grow outside isn't the best of ideas as far as attracting unwanted attention is concerned.
And yeah, that late summer rain bullshit we get here, it's enough hearing my mates moaning about it

dying leaves dont waste energy, they collect energy with every dying bit containing chlorophyll.
extra branches dont waste energy either, same with extra buds. The buds on a single cola plant are no better than buds on a multicola plant

Nice buzz, youre about a week or two in front of me, late germ, running in the tent at the moment will transfer to outdoors once it hits the next (3rd) set of fans and get past this nute burn from the hot soil mix i just transfered too.
I didn’t know that dying leaves are worth keeping. I’ll keep that in mind. Though it would use its energy to keep the dying leaves alive.

It doesn't really use energy to keep a leaf alive...it's using up it's energy, if anything.(As in fading fan leaves when underfed)
