To flush or not to flush..? Nutrient burn?

I wouldn't mess with any additives until your comfortable with whatever base nutes you settle on
I personally wouldn't use AN either but,
theres nothing wrong with what you have

I wouldn't use it because I feel there are better options for less money

not because theres anything specifically that makes it less or more appealing to your plants

its just fertilizer

all fertilizers are made of the same ingredients
the only differences are the ratios of individual elements

for example one bottle has more P or another has more N
but the P and the N are likely sourced from the same elements no matter the brand

brands are just BRANDS

if I buy Samsung or sony.. the components inside are likely all the same and made in china

if you buy AN or general hydro, or elite

there all made from (basically) the same elements

calcium nitrate
potassium sulfate
magnesium sulfate
magnesium nitrate

and several more

look at the ingredients listed from brand to brand the are the same

the more bottles they separate them into
the more bottle you buy
the more money they make

advanced would sell you 20 bottles to make 1 nutrient mix if they could

or you can by an easy 2 part and only buy two bottles and the mixing would be a lot less confusing

whats important is that your plants are getting a balanced ratio of elements, not the brand

if your not concerned with pinching pennies

and your garden is relatively small

GH flora nova and flora grow is super easy

its an easy 1 part for veg and 1 part for bloom
the directions on the bottle are in range

it already has additives like kelp and aminos in it and its well balanced meaning you don't need to add anything more

if you want to buy your nutes cheap (dry salt)
buy the 5-11-26 hydro mix and the calcium nitrate from customhydronutrient.com

Awesome advise I really appreciate the time taken to help me. I've looked into and educated myself about a lot of this. I'm actually thinking of switching to RAW nutrients to single out individual problems and spoon feed efficiently to further my knowledge and education on cultivating. with these 3 dry salts and Epsom salt from your grocery store
you could mix and blend to match and liquid store bought fertilizer brand on the shelf

growing in soil and with a few amendments you might even be able to top dress

veg
per gallon/ dilute to desired EC (estimated EC 1.5)guess
2 grams calcium nitrate
1 gram Epsom salt
2.5 grams hydro mix

bloom
per gallon
1.5 grams calcium nitrate
0.5 mono potassium phosphate
0.75 grams Epsom salt
2.5 grams hydro mix

since the hydro mix has many elements combined

mixing larger batches will be better for accuracy

what some people do is mix it x4 strength

for example
veg
8grams calcium nitrate
4 grams Epsom
10 grams hydro mix

and then cut it with water at roughly 3:1 or to reach desired EC ( 3 parts plain water 1 part solution)


you can mix it as concentrated as you like
an 6:1 mix youd weigh it x8
and so on

to make a liquid concentrate


part A ( 5 gallons)
calcium nitrate 7680 grams

part B(5 gallons)
hydro mix 9600 grams

part C( 5 gallons)
magnesium sulfate 3840 grams
mono potassium phosphate 1920 grams

part D( 5 gallons)
magnesium nitrate 2880 grams

take 4 five gallon bucket and mark them A,B,C,D
fill each half way with water (hot is faster)
measure the grams for each part and add to the appropriate bucket
top bucket off until full



veg ( for EC roughly 1.3)
5mls part a (calcium nitrate liquid concentrate)
5mls part b (hydro mix liquid concentrate)
5mls part d (magnesium nitrate liquid concentrate)

bloom
5mls part a (calcium nitrate liquid concentrate)
5mls part b (hydro mix liquid concentrate)
5mls part c (mkp & magnesium sulfate liquid concentrate)

these 5 gallon 3 part concentrate mix will yield about 4000 gallons of solution

the only down side to the concentrate is without some type of preservative it could grow some algea or something over time

the concentrates with sulfur wont likely grow anything
but the calcium nitrate and magnesium nitrate will

it doesn't bother me but if it did I might dose my concentrate with 20mls per gallon of hydrogen peroxide every now and again
just make sure to do each part (A,B,C,D)equally so that the dilution rates are equal on each bucket... for example if you add 20mls to bucket A, youll need to add 20mls to bucket B,C,D also.
otherwise over time itll change your mix

if it really bothers you you could also order some food preservatives on ebay
but youd have to look into how much to use
its been to many years for me to remember

if you choose to go this route id only use it in the calcium nitrate and magnesium nitrate

im not sure how much would be required for 5 gallons but youd want to make sure its not much, I think its tiny amount, so the sodium shouldn't be an issue
there might be a better option youd have to research it

I definitely will be buying these products. Thanks for the mixing instructions. Would have taken me forever to figure that out. So as far for additives, do they make a big difference? Like kelp, aminos, b vitamins, silica, carbs? If so, any inexpensive solutions for those? Thanks for your time.

That's the only thing i would not recommend he get, I got a sample of them a few months ago and it gave me WILD ph fluctuations in my ebb and flow system . Of course your experience will vary but they didnt go very well with me, that and after the samples are out they are pretty expensive, for a beginner I would recommend BC nutrients starter pack ,You cant go wrong with them , 40 bucks for the pack and they work great , been using them consistently since 2011 with great results. JMO though

amino acids and kelp can dramatically change growth patterns for the good or for the worse

the dry powders are significantly more effective than store bought liquids that have been sitting on the self for who knows how long

use it sparingly and not more than directed, unless you want to see what it can do

I took a plant I planned to kull and sprayed it with 2x,4x,8x recommended and its was crazy how it affected growth

too much will cause negative impacts with plant growth regulators

with proper use it can give you a boost but don't over do it

in soil I add 1/4 tsp per gallon every other watering

aminos I don't use much is soil because the ff ocean forest already has plenty of N to start
maybe 1x per month 1/4 tsp per gallon

if you choose to spray it do it about the same
1/4 tsp per gallon spray not more than 1x per week

if you combine them into one spray
use only 1/4 tsp total between both or the plants wont like you

aminos with its high N content increase or re-directs into foliage growth during veg.
don't use it during bloom or youll get leafy buds
