To Grind or not to Grind?

thanks Kush, i have never used one, but hopefully i might be getting some really good ass dank WW, so i have been lookiing into getting one.

@cocobuds, stainless steel, sounds good, but a bit pricey, no?

well in canada the kind of grinder coco is talking about goes anywhere from $20 to $60 cheepest grinder ive seen was a wood one at a headshop where i live on 420 for 2 bucks! but if you dont want to put cash out small thin scissors and a shot glass works good it just takes some talent.

I've seen great ones for 20 to 30 bucks. Think of it as an investment in the future quality of everything you smoke. I just put grinders and stuff on my christmas list helluva stocking stuffer

for that price you can get a coffe grinder which out does any hand grinder but thats just what i think and what my expirience tells me but what does it for you does it for you.

I've had both the stainless steel sweetleaf (pins) version of hand grinder, the other type with the blades (manual grinder), and have used the plastic and wood pin models as well.

For the hand grinders, I've had good experiences with all of them, and bad as well. Out of the two stainless steel sweetleafs one was amazing never an issue, and the other one was constantly getting stuck. End product wise is similar for all the pin models, the issue with the plastic and wood is that they tend to run into issues sooner due to warping and friction. When it comes to the pins vs the blades for hand grinders, the pins IMO gave a better product especially for rolling, the blades tended to pulverize it alot more, especially an issue with dryer flowers.

With that all said and done though, what I use now is a worn in Mr Coffee grinder, the secret to them being if brand new to dull the blades via a file or running alot of course grade product through it.

When brand new the problem is that you will end up with a powder if even an instant to long on the pulses and its a pita, but once it is broken in, as others have mentioned it catches any kief that is separated, which can be added to the bowl / joint being prepped, or allowed to build up for a power session later. As a note, if you have a electric grinder, make sure to go out and invest is some sort of cheap hobby brush, as they make extracting all the crystals even easier .

thats basically mine above with the magnet and shizz. dont see the point in this other stuff. your always gonna loose a certain amout, its inevitable.

i pretty sure there machined aluminum i grind all my bud no matter how im smoking it and besides you never will smoke a seed agin you b planting them

The sweetleaf in particular i know to be stainless it is a heavy SOB, the blade type i have seen in aluminum before though.

im pretty sure there aluminum with stainless steel teath but i could be wrong i just remember reading that somewhere. if you are smoking the hash is decaboxylation still worth it or is it not because the process takes placce upon smoking? my kief presses without heat so im wondering if adding heat will improve it or not thanks.

I have a coffee grinder and in my opinion its the best and easiest way to chop your mixes,
Save the scissors for camping I'd say.

coffee grinder all the way, or the skizzaz. ive had nothin but trouble with grinders metal or wood, ive bought so many over the years and end up throwing them out cuz i wud get better results with the scissors.. coffee grinder has lasted me years and keep it in the kitchen to dodge that extra parifinalia charge

there are just times when you cant use a shot glass and then nice herb goes all over the place when your using the shot glass and scissors method (without the shotglass).

Just a thought but instead of worrying about a small loss in crystals just smoke more to make up for it happy toking everyone

I think it really depends on the bud. Sometimes it seems it'll do less damage than allowing everything to be be disrupted by fingers, sometimes it's easier to just break it down by hand. Sometimes it'll turn out I was using a whole lot more weed than I thought 0_o after it comes out of the grinder- and for the sake of cost-effectiveness I might grind that week's sac. I'd be too fucked to notice a discrepancy, so might as well save some money.

I hate seeing people get into petty arguments over who the crystals belong to because the grinder got passed around, or people sneakily rubbing their baccy in that shit before passing it back. *rolls eyes*
