to late to top?

You can, but most people will tell you not to. If you are worried about height, try to bend it over and tie down before you chop it. This will also promote the lower branches to grow faster. Since it is still probably in the stretch phase ( you said first days of flowering right), if you do top it, the next lower nodes will shoot up from the change in auxins in the plant, but the resulting yield will more than likely not be any more, and could be less, it is hard to say. If it is an indica dominant, I would strongly suggest against topping in flower. If you are trying to get a cutting to root, then take it from a lower branch, they have more hormaones to root supposedly.
