Ive been reading up on yeild and topping and fimming. While topping will produce two colas and fimming may produce 4, why wouldnt everyone just fim to increase bud production? Are there any pros or cons of one technique vs the other?

Thanks for splainin it to me:)

No, if you fail you just get 2 tops like a normal topping.

What fimming actually does is 'top' the upper 2 nodes at once. It's just the upper one is still really small, so when it goes correctly, it appears as if you have 4 tops from 1 node, but it's actually from 2 nodes.

Topping and fimming by themselves does not automatically lead to more buds, it just leads to a bushier plant. Properly managing all aspects of the grow is what gives you good yields. Lots of people don't like the added veg time and never top at all and get great nugs.

Personally, I go for 'mainlining' with most strains. Try a search if you aren't familiar with it, there's an entire thread on it here somewhere.

I've always topped and will continue to for me it was out of necessity early on trying to keep my plants lower than surrounding cover........never heard of LST or Fim till I stumbled onto the RIU website several years back..I guess it comes down to what you're comfortable doing for me its topping.......!

I personally prefer FIM, but either produces good results. I find they recover much faster and it's a title less stressful on the pant, this is the key reason I FIM, you can FIM multiple times easily depending on how long you veg. As you practice you can get it down to a science and produce 4 nodes, worst case 2 so there's little down side and because they recover fast you can try again.
