to trim or not to trim...that is the question..

ok ladies and gents...this time..when i chopped them down after a 24-72hr dark period..i manicured them while still wet..so it was alot easier than when they are dry as they are all crunchy and sometimes im too lazy to cut every last single bud when they are hella small and just crumble in your fingers..so i cut them while wet and it was alot easier..but..my other partner said, that if i manicure them while wet, it takes away from the smell..so it will take about 3-4 weeks for the dank smell to come back while curing..instead of drying with majority of leaves (minus fan leaves) on..like the leaves kind of trap the smell on the flower, but when all the lil leaves are trimmed..i guess it exposes it to air and kind of loses the danky smell..which in this case..it did..my dank smell wasnt there..but they looked really good..crystally..and nice looking flowers..so..is it true?? if i trim leaves while wet and then dry them..will it lose smell and possibly flavor? or should i trim after dried..as i did before and had really nice smelling flowers..i guess im answering my own question..but any help would be appreciated..thanks and hope to hear from yall...happy growiing...#keepitstickydope2.jpgdope3.jpgdope4.jpgdope5.jpgdope6.jpg

i never trimmed dry i may try it this harvest in a few weeks but i do notice when i trim wet the smell is very pedestrian but im more of a flavor man myself tho, and i think the true aroma of the herb is best let go after a nice cured bud is cracked open

my personal method is like your buddy said. I break down all the fan leaves first. Then i chop the plant into manageable hangable pieces for drying. After usually 3-5 days drying i then breakdown all the nuggets off the stem, and hand trim each NUGGET until it is a very nice cut. It is at that point when i start the canning/curing process. A big part of why i like this method is because it is an easy way to collect all your sugar trim/sugar leaf when trimming. But it is OF MY OPINION that the good smell is Also definetly more present When dried this way.

I feel like trimming wet releases plant oils that are unpleasant. But i have no info or facts to back that up... Its kinda just a feeling. Always done it dry

yea i see what you mean bro..i did curre for about 2-3 weeks..but before..when i would cut when they were dried already..my smoke would be great right after cutting not even had to cure and it was already sold..so i dont know??.

I trim dry because trimming wet exposes a lot of inner surfaces directly to the air, which causes a lot more wicking, and speeds up drying, thereby reducing the effective curing effect of a slow dry. I dry in an environment that is 50-55% RH, leave the plant whole, even fan leaves on, and it takes about 7-10 days. When trimming wet it's easier to get all the leaf, but I don't feel it's critical to get every leaf, I just make sure to cut off anything that's not absolutely coated in crystal. Trimming when dry is harder to see and harder to differentiate between bud and leaf... but on the upside you can kind of just rub the blade down the side of the bud and take a lot of leaves off, since they curl upwards during drying and are entirely brittle.

I trim the Bud all the way down completely. Like you said I don't like trying to play with little crumbly leaves.
In my experience even leaving the small leaves on makes it tastes more like homegrown despite the fact that they are covered in resin glands. I trim and throw away the fan leaves and save the smaller buds and cuttings to make hash out of along with the smaller buds on the bottom of the plant. Probably going to start lollipoping; although I do like hash. This is a Kush plan I just trim tonight about 30 minutes agoView attachment 2564652

damn bro nice looking flowers there..think ill go back to my old ways and cut branches off, hang them, then when they are dried after about 1 week, i will do all my manicuring then..
