Too much PH up?

I used quite a bit more than is necessary trying to lower my ph level. A day or two later the top of my Cola looked burned. I thought initially that it was heat stress so I moved the lights back a bit to no avail. Since then the leaves have been browning but only near the top. Can anyone help me distinguish whether this is a case of heat stress or other? And if it is the result of too much ph down what should I do? What are the effects of using too much ph up?

Last time I checked the soil PH it was alkaline 6.9. I no longer have the tools for checking PH or I would.
