Too Soon for Lights? First Grow, Please Help!

Both of my seeds cracked last night so I put them in pre-moistened pro-mix. About 1/2 an inch deep, tap root up on one, down on the other.
I have two 6500k CFLs with 5.5 inch reflectors and put them over each pot. (about 2-3 inches from the soil surface.)

Is this OK? Should I have left them in the dark? They're just sitting on my desk right now, under the lights. Also, how long until they sprout?
I know it varies but I'd just like a general time frame so I know what to look for. All help/advice is VERY appreciated!

I'll post pictures if you want but it really just looks like a pot of soil ATM lol.

they don't need light to till they sprout. Did you label which is up and which is down ?
Yes, I did! I also labeled the strain and date they were planted.
They don't need light yet, I know, but will having it on hurt them?

I was just thinking about seeds planted outdoors, and generally they get sun, right?
The seeds grow up under the soil to reach the sun. I thought it might help...

If it doesn't, that's fine too. I just want to be sure I'm not ruining them!

i personally like to keep the unsprouted seeds under the light. i've noticed that they sprout quicker and tend to be healthier. also the light heats the soil which mimics what would happen in nature if they were growing on their own.

I've done both ways and it really doesnt matter too much. thats just my personal preference
