Top leaves are curling and leves near bud sights.

ok so about a week ago the top 2 sets of shade leaves on my 76 day old plant started to look dry and curl up around the edges like a canoe. and all of the leaves near my bud sights are curling. I'm sorry but i do not have any way to post a picture of the problem. here is what im working with. the PH is a little low but im not positive that this is the issue it is around 5. also i do not think it is heat but the grow room is at about 88 deg. the top of the plant is about 6 to 8 inches away from the light and its only 2 45 watt grow lights on the top and 4 75 watt's on the sides. the plant is about 2 feet tall and about 3 weeks into flowering. please help, i would hate to lose this plant.

Three weeks into flowering and you’re getting curled bud leaves…good for you. These leaves are supposed to curl. A few more weeks and, more leaves, more curling and she’ll look beautiful.


If large fan leaves are curling up, it may be dehydration or heat stress. Leaves on young plants may indicate an Mg deficiency if curling up but, on an old plant with old leaves an Mg deficiency is usually indicated by small yellow spots with gray/brown center dots adjacent to the leave veins.

When you describe the top leaves looking like a canoe, it sounds like heat stress. If that's the case, you'll notice it's worse around leaves that are close to the hot lights. 88 degrees is a bit hot for a cannabis plant, but depending on your medium (soil, hydro, etc) your plant will probably be fine. In the future, if you can't find a way to control the heat, I recommend getting an Afghan strain or some other strain native to hot areas since they can better handle the heat.

If you can't find a way to cool down the room a bit, then make sure you're giving your girls plenty of water (without soaking them, they should be a bit dry before you water them again). It may also be beneficial to get a fan in your grow area. If possible, you want to try to get some of the heat from the lights away from the plants. However, you don't want to point the fans straight on your girls as that may cause wind stress. I recommend pointing the fan straight at the lights, or pointing it at a wall so the air bounces off the wall before hitting your girls. Ultimately, you want their leaves to look like they're rustling gently in the wind, but not be shaking/moving too much. Think of what plant leaves look like outside on a breezy day.

From what I understand you can supplement the air in your grow area with CO2 to help your plant better deal with the heat, but I've never done that myself so I can't personally recommend that method.

Thanks man i really appreciate the feedback. i do have a fan in the grow room pointed at the wall like you said and i have noticed that the temp goes down to about 70 at night when the lights are off. im down to my last 3 plants today and they are all girls and my oldest is still experiencing the problem. i added a little baking soda to the soil today to try and bring the ph up and hopefully fix this problem because im not 100% sure it was heat stress since it was about 8 inches from the light. but im no expert. ill try and get another fan and maybe it will help bring the temp down while the lights are on.
