Topped Plant: Main Shoot from Cotyledon Node. WHAT?

Hey guys I just topped a young plant of mine. it was about 18 days old and the eighth node was just beggining to develop. I cut it right above the second node, (not counting the cotyldon as a node). It's been almost two days now and I haven't seen any major new growth, but I just noticed that there are five shoots growing. I expected four, two from the first node, two from the second node. But I noticed there are five, the four I expected, none of which have really grown out of the node yet, and a fifth, growing from one of the two cotyledon nodes. Ironically, it is also the most developed of the five baby shoots. Has anyone else had this experience?

so when you topped you took off about 6 nodes?

ive gotten 6 tops from a fim once so i doubt its impossible.

could we get some pics? i'm topping one of my plants in the same spot tomorrow and would love to see an example of what it looks like/the after effects

Yeah, I read uncle ben's topping thread and did it like he described, and if you read further into the thread you find that the more vigorously topped, the more vigorous the growth afterwards.

i would greatly beg to differ on the effectiveness of cutting off 6 full nodes instead of 1, but to each his own.

The shoot at the top right of the first picture is the one that has come from the cotyledon node. I didn't expect this since it's not considered a true node. The other cotyledon also produced a shoot, but it's tiny and buried beneath the other leaves. Notice how this shoot has separated itself from the main stem more than the others.

Looks fine to me, cool little mutant plant.

On a side note, are you feeding your plants? If so, prolly want to cut the amount you're feeding them in half, looks like you got nute burn.

Yeah I've been feeding them Jack's Hydro Herb Feed by J.R. Peter's laboratory. Up until I transplanted though, i was only watering with 500mL, which is an eighth of a gallon. It's hard to measure out 1/32 of a tea spoon, so i'm sure the feeding may have been a little high. I'm giving straight water for the next few feedings.

Why do you say that? Besides the time taken to grow it to that size what am I loosing out on? Does it stress the plant more when more is taken off? The seventh and eighth nodes weren't really developed yet. The leaves of the eighth node weren't two centimeters long yet and were still pointed straight up.

so you cut off the top 2 nodes only? from what i understood you cut off all but the bottom 2 nodes. did i misunderstand?

get a pipette to ad the nutrients in very small increments. i use one for superthrive. Looks like that thing is going to be stacked.

how well do you find superthrive too work, was thinking about buying a small bottle but never heard of anyone around here using it?

I think it works great for early root development. There is some mention of it HERE on RIU and it seems people have their own instructions for use. I like to use it for germinating, clones, transplanting and veg. in small amounts(a few drops per gallon maybe once for each of the stages i just listed). Also whenever they look like they are not looking so hot(deficiencies). Never while fruiting though, it seems to do some weird things to plants in flower. A product thats been around longer than you or me must have proven itself somehow.

I am having the same thing happen with Cookies Kush, I am doing a mainline and cut at the 6th node to the 3rd and removed the bottom 2. I currently have 11 of 19 plants doing this same thing, on a few one sides grow is really pronounced and on others it is even growth, I am curious doing a mainline if I should remove these grows but at the same time am really curious because it has never happened on the Cotyledon set of leaves before, it has always been on the second or third topping from random branches from the 2nd set of topped plants... I am curious though if with the manifold if these wouldn't after my next topping be the same size and grow just as even, had some luck with a mix of mainlining but with the 2nd and 3rd node, similar in style to how they train clones to form a manifold like a plant grown from seed because of the uneven node spacing. I am really curious to see what the results will be.

I had one of my main lined plants throw a little shoot off of the cotyledeon site and it turned out to be the biggest bud on the plant. If it happens again, I'd cut it off to make everything uniform again.
