Topped plant won’t heal wound

I have a nice sativa dominant outdoor plant that has had some ups and downs. It started prematurely flowering but now it’s back in re veg mode. I topped the plant a while back but the wound never fully closed and now I’m worried about having this open hole in the middle of my plant.

When I've had hollow stems, at a topping point, I've put a zip-tie around the tip and pulled it closed until it sealed the stem. After about a week I pull them off and it's healed shut.

I'd try to seal that up with beeswax or something. I deal with stem borers in Hawaii and that would be a perfect entry point for an insect
