Topping and pruning

I know we havea grow faq I have read and many others but still am not sure exacltey where and how to do it. I only have a 6ft grow room and I have a MH and HPS setup the plant prolly wouldnt like being very close to them 2ft at the closest? Well My plants are near needing to be topped or pruned but I would like to learn how for when the time comes. The node is where the leaf branch connects to the mainstem and the mainstem connects to the center stem right?? ok... anyway when I top my plant do I just cut the center up right stem at the height that I want it ? and what about pruning? So I just need some step by step details and pics would be nice. I dont want to screw this up.

First off, what stage are you in your grow? Veg, flower, seedling? If you're still nursing seedlings then wait a while. Probably until you have four or five nodes (Yes, the ankle bone connects to the leg bone, and so on... you have the right idea on anatomy) I don't have any pics but you should be able to find plenty of info on topping plants here in the forums. You're shooting to remove all of the potential new growth from just above the nodes that you want to perpetuate. If you dont remove enough (commonly referred to as FUCK I MISSED or FIM) you'll end up with new growth above the nodes, which can end up redirecting the plants energy to places that you dont want. You can experiment with FIM later on... for now just focus on getting all of the potential growth cut off. It always helps to have about an inch or so between the new growth and the nodes that you want to cut at.

If you're plants are in flowering, you shouldnt be doing any pruning or topping at all. By damaging the plant, you're removing energy from the flowering in order for the plant to heal itself. This stunts growth and prolongs your harvest! If you're at this point in the grow, then your best bet to keep you ladies away from the light is to tie and train them down into a horizontal grow.

Thanx guys well Im going to try it on one of them and the other 2 Im going to leave them I think I should wait until there a little bigger don't you?
