Hey Guys.
I have a question...having never topped before.
Im growing Blue Cheese and its currently 4 weeks into veg.
I have read that it depends on the strain whether the yield is better or not.
Having never topped before it is something i want to try but not at the expense of losing bud.

the bluecheese will grow many side branches without topping it, but i dont think topping it will hurt it. topping it will make those side branches bigger though, and maybe be able to get a more even canopy.
could even try just bending the top over after a couple of weeks of flowering and most of the stretch will be over.

she looks very nice. i wouldnt top it. towards the end of flowering the branches will need some support. the buds aren't like massive huge but they will be heavy enough that the branches will bend over.

if you plan to do a scrog with netting and train the plant under the netting to each hole, then topping may be a good idea.

I have never used a scrog before.
I recently read about low stress training and that it something that interests me.

here is a pic i found a while back of lst.


something not shown is at the top, 2nd pic from the left. the first tie you put on before you start bending will be around the stem, a little bit above the soil, tie around the stem and back to the pot the opposite direction you want to make the first bend. this will act as a counter balance so you dont uproot the plant.

you should be fine without the counter balance because you have alot of branches already and will be tieing down in all directions.

be sure to not tie too tight around the plant. leave room for it to grow. if too tight, the stem will grow right around the tie. also after a few weeks of being tied, you should be able to start taking off the first ties because the plant will start retaining the shape without ties.

imo i wouldnt my experience is bushy plants give a good size bud all over but if topped the non cola buds will be reduced dramatically

Thanks very much for that Smoke.
Is it cool to use metal pegs instead of ties?
I was going to bend some coathangers and use them.
I thought it may help as the stems thicken.

you can use lots of stuff to tie them over. i have used string, electrical wire, twist ties, tie wraps. lots of things will work.
i dont think you need to get too carried away. i would just tie each branch over a little so it just opens the plant up to allow more light penetration and air flow. i drilled small holes around the top edge of some containers and use a twist tie from the big contractor garbage bags. go around a branch and pull it down a little and hook the tie on the edge of the pot. just dont break the branch. if you want to tie it over alot then only go about half way and then in 4 or 5 days you can pull it over some more.

She is two weeks into flower tomorrow.
Fed with Bio Grow/Bloom and Top Max also a bit of Bat Guano mixed into the soil a fortnight ago.
She has dealt with the Spider Mite ok i think...they seem to have gone thanks to predatory creepy crawlies.

Thanks Smoke...I am really pleased with this one.
I am sticking to that Bio grow chart religously.

The canopy is fairly even and everything is going great
so i wont be topping her.

I placed her under a 250w 2700k cfl lamp today.
I have read lots about how they are nowhere near as good as hid but i want to compare for myself.
There is a lot of light from it for a single plant.
