Topping - confused

Hi,

I am a new indoor grower and I am in my 4th week of Veg and my maji's are looking really healthy, 10 inches tall, lots of good healthy leaves and branching off but im really unsure about my topping. I topped my plants a week ago and if im honest i think i cut too low and removed everything rather than leaving the 2 new growth spots, where the cuts were made the plants havent really changed over the past week. however there are other top like bits coming off other branches out to the side that come from the main stem. so my questions are:

  • Is there only ever one top to a plant or can you top the other branches that come off the main stem?
  • What if i have cut too low and taken the whole thing off and not leaving the two new growths to spurt? will they be ok?

Thanks guys :)

don't worry, if you cut to much you might have FIM it or just topped a bit "to" low, agin don't worry, then the next set of side shoot will just take over then

and sure you can top the new side benches, actually you can top multiply times, just remember it will stress the plant a bit and it will take about a week roughly to bounce back and start growing agin, so don't over do it, most only top once maybe twice, when I top or FIM I like to LST them side shoots, LST don't put to much stress on em and do about the same thing (redirect its grow hormones to the lower branches)

here is a pic might help you understand ?

Next time wait til the shoot your topping has about 1/2 or 3/4 inch of stem below the leaves and take about 7/8 of it off making sure you don't take the little sprouts on either side of it .....as if FIM ....NEVER WORKS FOR ME...but some people have great success with it...I've only tried a few times but topping works every time

Thanks HappyHour, it does seem the 2 new little fan leaves have started sprouting out now either side and all is looking good. i will keep a closer eye next time.

Thank you
